30 Be brass

I've been out with a 30 Br quite a lot lately and thought I'd make some new brass. I found a sack of 6br Norma brass in my room and thought"why not"? I loosened my primer pockets on the initial firing.Am I that hot or is just normal for Norma?

This is just my opinion, but I think you are wasting your time messing with Norma Brass.

To begin with, the Norma 6BR brass is as much as .002 smaller at the case head web. Most 30BR framers are sized to fit Lapua Brass, which from the beginning has always been a tad bigger than either Norma or the old Remington.

And, that Norma, especially the older cases, are too soft to handle the pressures that a 30BR likes.

You can make up 50 cases from Lapua and wear out a barrel with them.

I'm sure others will chime in and say "go for it". But I shoot a 30BR a lot, and there is simply no reason, other than saving a hundred dollars, to use anything but Lapua if you are wanting it to reach it's full potential.

Thanks Jackie. I have quite a bit of bag time with this case. I just made up the Norma because it was laying there. I was only wondering if my experience was typical. I guess is was.

Dave, I did some work with the Norma 6BR brass and here's what I experienced:

-As as 6BR, it's great. Even pushing the Nosler 55 gr. BTips over 3,800 the primer pockets have hung in there. Good life also in my 22BR (40 gr. BTip @ close to 4,100 fps).

-As 30BR brass, it would rattle the primer pockets loose every time I got over 2,850 with a 112/117/118 (.925/1.00 or 1.080 jackets). This was with .002 .0025 back end clearance...the same as my 30BR chambers were with Lapua. -Al

I liked the Norma brass when I used it in the 6BR so I thought it would be great for the 30BR.
I found it to be a real losing proposition, the brass is way too soft.
