243 target rifle problem

Ya'll are picking on the SST quite a bit. Not sure a bullet is going to make a 3in group rig into a .5MOA or tighter one. Maybe if the bullet and rifle twist were at opposite ends of the spectrum. However, the .243 Win 700 VLS is 9 1/8 twist. It should handle 95gr bullets.

I've shot the SST in 270 Win and 7mm Mag and it is great for a hunting bullet. I swapped to SST from Nosler Ballistic Tips. Accuracy difference, in hunting terms, was negligible.

I know I've not seen/shot anywhere near the rifles many on here have, but the only time a hunting rig I've seen hit 3in groups was from a spun reticle. A better scope, attached well, got the 3in down to 1in. Some practice got the rig down to ~1in, which was good for the shooter/rifle.

Could be between the ears.
I have had this happen to me, I ordered new ammo for a duty rifle and went out to evalualte various loads. The one that I had high hopes for (69 grain Ranger match) shot the worst (3.75 in at 100 yards), during that same range session, I was getting 1/2 MOA groups (factory tube) with other ammo. At first, I blamed the ammo, but decided it might have been shooter induced (sub-concious), the next time I went out, viola! 5 shot sub-1/2 MOA groups.

I would still recommend trying different bullets, the 100 grain Sierra GK is normally a very accurate bullet. A good charge of H4350 and the GK is very good in my .243 (Savage 12FV)
I too, wonder why you would send a rifle off for work without first shooting it to see what work it would need.

243 Remington

My 243 SPS Varmint will only shoot Federal 80gr factory ammo.Almost one hole.Had to reload to get it to shoot witha 95 gr. Nosler.I'm going to try the 105gr A-max next.If I can't get it to shoot the 105gr.I will go to a 1 in 8 twist.

Sounds like you are discouraged after trying what, ONLY 1 load? Come on, you know that you have to try more than 1 load before you can say that a rifle is junk. My son's .243, which is the same rifle you have, refuses to shoot a Ballistic Tip, but loves the Sierra Pro-Hunter. I have seen this on more than 1 occasion. This usually indicates a large diameter bore.

As was said in another post, it is unlikely that you will get a 3 MOA rifle with one load to shoot 0.5 MOA with another load, but you may be surprised at the improvement that you may be able to get. For factory ammo, I would try Federal Premium in a couple of different loads. At least one of them should be with the Sierra bullet. My son's rifle did go from 1 3/4 MOA with the NBT to about 0.6 MOA just by switching to the Pro-Hunter.

I will be surprised if you can't get the 100gr. Pro-Hunter to shoot, if you try H4350, H4831 and RL-22, lit my a 210-M.
