22lr reamer

I am going to try my hand at chamber in a 22lr barrel. My late good friend Terry hall shared a few tips with me before he passes and I know I can acomplish this task. What I don't know is what reamer to order. I will be shooting some type of electronic ammo I assume at asprin. No tuners or anything like that. Just a straight 22 off a front rest in a sorter or field type stock. Just the basics I guess is what I am after. Any suggestions? Thanks lee

What you're actually asking here is how to chamber a rifle that would win the nationals but used for squirrel hunting. Strike up an email conversation with someone like Gordon Eck and see what falls out. There's a bunch of ways to perform this chamber and it work well but it seems that there is a sort of magic involved to make it work REALLY well.

No sir, that's not what I am asking at all.
I just see so many different reamers for 22lr I don't know what's what.
I tried to describe the type of shooting I am going to be doing as very basic. Aspirin shoots to be specific. Not full blown benchrest. I just don't know what a guy looks for in a reamer.
I hear a lot about this magic involved. I don't know much of anything about rimfire, but what I do know. my late friend terry hall chambered a few 22lr barrels with no tricks involved whatsoever. . He had always told me he didn't see why so many folks make this subject so complicated. His barrels always shot lights out. Always!!! I wish I could have bought his 22lr reamer when the family sold out. Maybe he just had a really good reamer???
I will soon learn for myself I guess. Lee

For what you want to use it for, I'd suggest you look at the Win 52D match reamer that Dave Kiff grinds. I think it would be little more forgiving of non match grade ammo than reamers used for competitive benchrest,
Dave

Lee,
I would suggest the PTG Eley EPS Match reamer which has a 1 1/2 degree lead angle. The wait time can be lengthily if ordered directly from PTG, however there is one available right now at Midway. John

I don't understand the part about the magic either but there's some truth there. Wasn't being sarcastic at all if that's the way it came across but rather trying to make a point. An aspirin is fairly small!

Wilbur, I think you are absolutely right about the magic, there is nobody and I mean nobody that has a 100 percent record in chambering barrels and have them shoot lights out EVERY time, I dont doubt what skeetlee has said about his friend having that kind of success but that would be magic if you asked me;)

You fellas are correct in your assumption. I should have been more clear. My late friend terry Hall didn't chamber a lot of 22lr barrels. He was a home hobby barrel guy. Dam good at it I might add!! He only chambered a few 22lr barrels that I really even know of. They were all for himself, and I know he always did well with them. Terry was a center fire guy, so he didn't spend a ton of time on rimfire. There was a weekly indoor rimfire benchrest shoot that he attended on a regular basis. I know he had a lot of success there with his home built rifles.

I was just getting into machining when terry passed. I miss the conversations and his knowledge. I learned a lot from terry and he was always willing to help.
I also didn't intend to apply that chambering a rimfire barrel was easy. I just don't scare easy, and I know I can accomplish my goal. I always have in the past and I don't see any reason, why this would be any different. I feel like I am talking the proper steps, meaning the type of rifle I intend on building first. If all goes well and I enjoy rimfire, maybe I will step up my game a little and try some different ideas. For know though I sticking to the basics.
with the help from a few good men here on the site, I have the reamer I need on the way. I have the barrel and I will soon have an action. thanks men. lee

I thought the WLM only built perfect rifles ! Guess he is not up to the task either ........Has he built you one yet ?

Guess he has not .........

Cheers !!

Lee,
If you would like to borrow a .22 match reamer, made by Clymer, I have one that chambered one barrel! The barrel is on a kimber 82c, and it flat loves Eley Red Box!
