I have heard that the shot count on a 220 Swift barrel is very low. What are theimpressions of the REm VSSF II in this caliber.

It's not low if you keep velocities below max, clean regulary and don't overheat the barrel. I know of at least one Swift that still had "minute of varmint" accuracy after 5000 rounds. But make them scream, clean them never, and get them white hot and you may be done in less than 1500.
The 220 swift is known to be a barrel burner but Like Vic mentioned it will serve you well and extend the life if taken care of. I load mine kinda hot and it was still winning factory class until last year when the round count was getting somewhere in the 1800 range. Granted the throat is gone but it's still plenty accurate for ground hog hunting. Hey after 1800 rounds if it needs to be rebarreled so what it served me great and I love the caliber. 1800 is a lot of shooting for the average guy. You will not be dissapointed with the 220
