Here's to all that could make the trip West for the 2015 USARB Nationals. There is no doubt in my mind that you are about to experience one of the most wonderful of matches with a most gracious host at a top-notch facility.

Good luck to all, and have a most memorable experience.

Just got back from there and it is quite nice, I must say. Hotter than Blue Blazes here though- - - -

The actual locale where the match is held is NOT hot. It rarely gets much over 80F in Oxnard ... not sure where you were, but not likely Open Grove, if you say it was hot compared to where you come from.

89 today there, I left there about 2:00 PM

It's 86 here right now@ 8;45 PM. Actually, it was in the high 80's in Maine when We left so not a lot different. BUT it was 107 yesterday @ LAX when we left it in the early PM. The man in the Calif welcoming center here today said the temps are about 10* higher than usual here. I don't mind the heat so much, can always take things off. It's having to put things on that I don't like so much these days.

Cooling down a bit

My phone says it's 76 here now and the forecast is for 84 today. It's partly cloudy and there is a breeze !!! From what I could glean yesterday, the range is about like what we shoot in in most places, A Shoe Box with a few holes in it. Promises to be great fun I am thinking.

Dave,

Thanks, it's been a great first day. It is a pleasure meeting those that made the trip, and yes it is hot and humid with real feel in the upper 90's which to us here is above normal.

Awesome shooting in US open with Marvin Reynolds coming out on top to take top honors, Marvin also shot a 250 on his first card so a big congrats.

Top 5:
1) Marvin Reynolds, 250-8x, 249-11x, 247-9x, 746-28x

2) Matt Kellerman, 248-9x, 249-8x, 248-16x, 745-33x,

3) Ron Silveria, 249-9x, 247-8x, 247-7x, 743-24x

Joe

Joe,

Thanks for the update. And your not the only one wishing I could have made the trip, especially after watching your neighbors video.

Thank you so much for hosting the event.

Way To Go Marvin

My heartfelt congratulations go out to Marvin Reynolds and a Mike Niksch HV rifle for winning the USA Open Class at the 2015 USARB Air Rifle Benchrest National Championships.

Marvin represents what air rifle benchrest is in so many places across the USA. He rarely has an opportunity to shoot in a sanctioned match. He is forced to practice and compete against himself. Let's not forget how many pellets he fires during a year.

For all those who believe that “practicing” out in your backyard is NOTHING close to what it is like when you are sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with several of the world's top guns as the line goes hot and you are trying to prove your worth up close and personal, when each and every shot actually means something, I say, tell that fairytale to Marvin.

Joe, I personally wish to thank you for keeping the dream alive. Those of us that started this thing so many years ago are so thankful to you and your group of support people that made it all possible.

Congratulations Sir Marvin..........I told you.

For those of you that are not familiar with Marvin Reynolds please know he IS the definition of sportsmanship and commitment to sport.
A 17 caliber winning in OPEN CLASS needless to say does requires a bit of talent.

Also, if it were not for his pellet trap OSHA and the environmentalists would have had his front yard condemned years ago making Three Mile Island look like a sandbox. It is rumored but not confirmed by his neighbors he has pellets delivered on a flat bed............. weekly.

All of us compete only against ourselves. Matches are simply there to measure how well we are doing in our quest to be the best we can and or want be, AND the social aspect that goes with it all; very important, that part of it. "Shootin" ain't a "raselin" match.

Dick,

I can't compete with that as your range looks wicked peaceful! Mine on the other hand as pictured below is quite different:

wow was I mistaken about that weather!

---------

I've been to Oxnard many, many times in the summer over the last fifty years, and I've never experienced such heat and humidity there as last weekend! We used to ride the motors up thru there to cool off, and fish out of the port there all the time, and it was rarely even 80F, and for sure not humid.

But ennyhow, it was too humid for me, but it improved each day a bit, or so it seemed. I was kindof sick by Friday afternoon, and the weather was making it worse, but I gradually felt better by Sunday. I really enjoyed participating, and, though I didn't shoot well, it was still a fine experience re-acquainting with many I had met before, and getting to know some whose names I knew, but not the faces. The level of shooting was very, very high. I shot a few decent cards, and some mediocre ones, and though I usually do a bit better, it was all I had then.

Joe does a fine job, and has the finest range I have ever seen on private property. He was able to assemble a really great roster of competitors and they all appeared to have a fine time.

A fine event for sure.

Frank,

Your Welcome. I had a great time, just wish I could have spent more time with folks. It is a group effort with the help of volunteers and competitors working together make it a enjoyable, fun, and a very competitive weekend. One thing we can not control is Mother Nature but overall we all worked through it.

Wish you and Steve could have made the trip.

Regards,
Joe
