2014 USA Postal Series

All this talk about electronic scoring leads me to this, how about a USA Postal Championship?

3 targets, electronically scored, screen shots of targets and target analysis for verification and protests, international shooters are eligible and a full year in length. At the end, awards in each class for best aggregate AND best 25 shot group as calculated. Best group will be called the "Hummer" award or something not so hokey.

Okay, here goes. This postal match series will be very informal, almost an outreach program for shooters that cannot get to a sanctioned club. Also, some of the rules will deviate from those that are currently in place, so it will be on the honor system.

Classes: USA Production, LV, HV and USA Open
Indoors: 25 yards
Outdoors: 25 meters

Range/Club can be sanctioned or unsanctioned.
A single shooter can compete.

TDS target #36 will be utilized.
Shooters can print their own targets or request targets.
Shooters can scan targets themselves and send files via email or mail targets in to be scanned.
Screen shots of scanned targets and target analysis will be provided.
Scores and best 25 shot group sizes will be posted on web site, usairriflebenchrest.com.
One entry per week.
Monthly winners will be announced leading up to an end of year winner.

The above rules are only proposed. Your input is appreciated.

That sounds like fun to me. Colorado is a desolate place when it comes to AR Benchrest.......at least as far as I have seen.

Mike

Since you are somewhat familiar with TDS, this should be perfect for you. If you print the target and take it to a printer, they can print it on the paper of your choice. Jeff has given his permission to have this target printed by an outside vendor.

What is recognized as the best paper for printing targets?

Does it matter if you print in black and white for the scanner........or must you print the blue?

Mike

The software sems to work best with blue rings on a white background.

Targets should be printed on paper of at least 160 gsm weight or equivalent, our recommendation is for 175 gsm Vellum Bristol. The weights of paper can be a confusing subject. 100 pound stock works nicely.

Bob,

Here is the link to TDS, http://ontargetshooting.com/tds/

Target #36 is what we will be using.

3 targets are shot, these can be scanned and a file created for email delivery or the targets can be mailed in.
This would be one entry.
One entry per week in the class of your choice.
Indoors and outdoors will be separated.
A winner each month, with an end of year winner.
While scores are important, an additional emphasis will be placed on the 25 shot group size.

This postal series is NOT the USA Scoreline. It is for those shooters who are not able to shoot at sanctioned matches, like yours in Houston. However, you and your group are more than welcome to join in.

Mike Niksch, our first competitor.

Indoors, 25 yards.
250-16X
250-13X
249-17X
749-46X

Great shooting.

Best group was on target 2, Maximum spread (CTC) = .2001, Average distance to crosshair = .0659. These figures include all 25 shots on target 2. Now, whether you call that precision or accuracy, it is pretty special.

The system works. A postal match can be run with competitors on opposite ends of the country with scoring being done electronically. This will NEVER replace shoulder to shoulder events but now, many others can participate.

Any recommendations on a decent flatbed scanner that would work with Windows 7/8/8.1?

And what size is target #36? I'm going to talk to my neighbor who has a shop next door. Might be able to shoot from his shop out the roll-up door into my yard for 25m. My scores will likely stink but it would be nice to do some kind of shooting.

Thanks,
Casey

8.5" X 11"

Download TDS for free to trial for 15 days and you can review that target and others.

Thanks, Paul.

I did receive the targets......thank you very much.

I was wondering if each match is 3 targets?

I noticed on some of the previous results that there were only 2.

Thanks,
