1000 yard rifles

I think most of the custom rifle builders will build you a 1,000 yard rifle. I have one built by Jim Borden and two built by Doyle Anglin. Clarence Hammon built one of my 100 yard BR rifles, but builds 1,000 yard guns. Herb Coates, Mark King as well as a slue of others make them also. Bob White of The Shooters Corner, specializes in 100 / 200 yard rifles, but will build you a 1,000 yard rifle. I stop in to see him on a regular basis as he is close by to me. I even have one recently built by the Remington Custom Shop now that they have moved to the Dakota arms facility and are supplying them with Krieger Barrels. I also believe that most custom action makers (Borden, Kerbley etc.) also build full rifles.

There are, generally, two types of 1000 yard rifles. Light Gun, and Heavy Gun.

Light Gun is really pretty close to a regular Benchrest Rifle. It has a 17 lb weight limit, which really does limit the design.

Heavy Gun has no weight limit. As long as the rest is two piece, anything pretty much goes.

I built a Light Gun last year, based on a Shehane Tracker Stock and a Bat M Action. It's a switch barrel, one in 6BR, the other 284. It's pretty standard stuff, sort of a scaled up HV in calibers suitable for 600 to 1000 yards.

Gary, remember that long range you have to see the hit most places are using clay birds to to zero on so seeing the hit is very important as is tracking. All draft must taken out of the stock if you use free recoil......... Jim
