10/22 for benchrest am I Nuts?

Go to a match

You would get a better answer, if you went to an offical match in your area. That way you can see the equipment first hand, and maybe even get a chance to shoot some of it. On this site you will get numerous answers, and most will be good choices, but IMHO it will just confuse you.

Fred is right.. Go to a match and look. Most of the guys will be happy to show you their outfits and how they are set up.. You will find that most of the rifles are Turbo's, Suhl's, Remington 40X's and Winchester 52's.. All different brands of barrels and stocks. And you will probably want to invest in a tuner..

This is not an INEXPENSIVE sport...

i was exactly like you, started with every after market part that was avaliable, i was doing ok on the ibs target averaging 249 whatever x, i think you are shooting 25 yards?? right?? wrong?? i bought a hall action and mc millian stock and sent it off to a builder in n.c. and finally after recieving it several days ago, was able to zero in my scope yesterday on a lot smaller x ring target and i know for a fact it was money well spent on the current set up, the 1022 is outmatched now,but my goal was to build a 1022 that i could knock a tree rats eye out with and i made that goal.

We shoot at 50 yards. On Sunday I got 1st place with a score of 250-10x
The guys at the club keep telling me that this 10/22 is a real oddball because of its accuracy. I have had offers for it also.

Does anybody have a used rifle that they might want to sell? A Hall, Turbo, Remington 40X etc.? I would probably end up buying something and throwing a Shilen 4 grove ratchet on it so the barrel could be junk as for all I care.

Let me know

Tak,

Keep a eye on the classifieds here for there's always BR rifles for sale. Also, they show up on Rimfire Central too. Dan Killough gets used ones in and has them on his site plus if you make it to a major shoot there's almost always a few on the market. One thing I can recommend is if you pick one up don't count out the barrel just to slap a ratchet barrel on it. A lot of good rifles out there with other barrels than a ratchet, but with that said my 40X Shilen sure seems to be shooting really good right now.
