    Action trueing Rem 700

James Boatright wrote technical articles about bullet flight. I do know that he did write one article in PS magazine about trueing the Rem action. Sorry I don't have my magazines anymore. Boatright Custom Gun did the trueing work on my 40X. Both the front and back of the bolt are sleeved...

Need help forming some wildcat cases

Would it not work to incrementally neck down the 221 fireball brass with a 17 mach iv full length bushing die until you had a crush fit? I have a set of the case reducing die bushings, and they do work. Then the work begins. Cutting cases, fighting thick necks, possibly reaming the inside of...

    Now What?

Thanks Boyd But I didn’t gain any ground. When using the forum search, I go to the google search queries list- then if I pick any query that is on BRC, I get a 509 message- bandwidth limit exceeded! If I pick a query that is a shopping outlet everything works fine. When I get the 509...

    Now What?

When I "click" the search function I go to the google search page. (as usual) Now when I "click" on one of the items to search, I go directly to the Yahoo home page? - no search answers! Kurt

    Texas Freeze-OT

It could be worse It was 36 degrees below zero this morning in North Central Montana. It has now "warmed up" to twenty one below zero with a stiff breeze. Todays temp broke the old record. Still 2 more weeks until Winter. Merry Christmas Kurt

    Bill Bartram

A friend of mine met Bill Bartrum at a gun show in Spokane, WA. My friend told me that since I was interested in learning about bench rifles & accuracy I should give Bill a call. I did and we had quite a few interesting phone calls. This was about 2005. Bill was working on a project and at...

    Which minute of angle rail?

I appreciate the helpful replies...... I know quite a few of the custom bullet makers who produce the point-blank BR bullets, but now I need to purchase some 80 to 100 grain custom 6mm bullets. I have some Berger’s and want to try some Bib’s. Any other suggestions? Kurt

    Which minute of angle rail?

expiper- I am waiting for my new reamer, so I do have time to do some checking. I shoot mostly 100 yards with ppc, so maybe the next warm day I will try your suggestion. With 1/8 clicks, I think I would have to go up at least 100 clicks. If I did my calculations correctly I think I need...

    Which minute of angle rail?

Thanks for the imput- Since I have to use a BAT specific mount, I think I'll go with a 10 MOA riser. With the Burris system I think I can make it work at 100 / 600 yards. I do think it would work with non-tapered mounts. Leupold told me that my 45x45 scope has 38 MOA "total" adjustment...

    Which minute of angle rail?

I think I understand what you mean, but I am not sure how to do it. Kurt

    Which minute of angle rail?

I am switching a point blank BR rifle into a dedicated 600 yard BR rifle- (non-competition). I will be shooting 6Br, 95 gr bullets @ approximately 3000 fps, and will be using my Leupold 45X comp scope. My question: Should I purchase a 10 moa or a 20 moa tapered base? I will probably use Burris...

    Competition chambers

In chambering a competition benchrest rifle much has been written and discussed about not “just” using go/ no go gauges. I can understand the stacked-up problems that could arise using SAMMI specs for a chamber and then hoping that my competition sizing die is perfectly matched. My question: If...

    Fireball & Deuce Brass ?

I am using the newer Lapua "match" 222 Rem brass. I am using Redding competition FL bushing dies. I will do some more checking?? I just checked an older batch of Lapua .223 brass and it is definitely harder than my 222 brass. I do think I have a batch of softer brass. Thanks for helping...

    Fireball & Deuce Brass ?

Mike, I can take a virgin Lapua case out of the box, put the case in the hand-held primer, seat the primer and there are two distinct sharp marks on the "inside" edge of the rim. If I seat the primer very carefully, there aren't any marks. Kurt

    Fireball & Deuce Brass ?

Well, I didn't realize that a person my age could squeeze a hand-held priming tool too hard. A Sinclair or K & M type- yes, but a RCBS or Lee? Anyway- I learned something. I was exerting too much pressure when seating the primer and the shell holder made a gouge on each side of the rim. Kurt

    Fireball & Deuce Brass ?

Larry, I don't think my problem lies with the extractors, as I have the same problem with either 40x. I found some new brass I made up last spring. The brass has been fired 4 times each. Each rim already has the same sharp marks. They still fit in the shell holder fine. Tomorrow I will...

    Fireball & Deuce Brass ?

Brian, Thanks for the reply. No, I haven't ever tried to orient the fired cases in the bolt and check the situation. Both of my .222 rifles are HV bench guns, put together by top gunsmiths. Both rifles are minimun spec chambers. I am sure some of my loads have been maximum, but other than...

    Fireball & Deuce Brass ?

After about 4- 5 reloadings, the cases start to hang up in the shell holder. Tried 3 different shell holders- same with each. Rifles are 40x’s with Sako extractors. Is this problem simply the result of the small thickness of the 223 family of case rims? I usually chuck the cartridge in a...
