    Rem 600 vs model 7

Butch- I have no idea what size the hole was to begin with. It has been several years. It was easy enough to make a screw and all I use the rifle for is calling coyotes- gets beat around quite a bit but has held up fine. Dennis

    Motel prices in Phoenix

March is probably the most expensive time to stay in the Phx area because of all the spring training baseball games. It's a little over an hour each way for me to make it to the Cactus. I may have to go this year just to say hello to some folks. Hope you guys enjoy your stay!

    Rem 600 vs model 7

I put one of Willie's bottom metals on my 600 but the old screw was not long enough. I had to make a new screw as you cannot buy them. Not a big deal if you have the tools, however. Great bottom metal.

    Muzzle Brakes and Harmonics

I recently threaded the barrel on a Savage Axis rifle in 243 for my neighbor. He installed a suppressor for hunting coyotes and sighted it in. He decided he didn't like it and took it off. I went hunting with him and he missed an easy shot at a coyote. I asked him if he had re-sighted it in...

    Reamer question

I hope my post wasn't taken as 'bashing a vendor' and I am not complaining about the wait, just the inability to talk to someone or get a response to a QUESTION. I would have ordered a reamer on the phone but the girls couldn't help me. Glad to see that Dave is actually still running the place...

    Reamer question

Yes, I have noticed. I can't get any service from them anymore. They don't respond to my internet based email requests and every single gal that has worked for them and has worked with me by regular email is no longer with them. If I call and have a question, they are not allowed (or not...

    AR308 barrel extension

How much clearance do you guys like to leave between the bolt lugs and breech face when installing a barrel extension?

    Neck turners??

Using a lathe I have turned quite a few necks on my 1440 lathe using a KM tool. It is still easier than using a screw driver. I have no idea how it compares with the other brands mentioned, but I know that Bruno has them (including mandrels etc) in stock and I can always run up to his store and...

    Lathes

That looks like a "T" model to me. Unless he has an additional one I am not aware of.

    Lathes

There are at least three things about that lathe that would be deal-killers for me; it weighs 660 lbs, single phase and it has the damnable open gearbox that is noisy. After I got rid of my Frejoth (Taiwanese) I swore I would never own another one with the open gears. I much prefer the oil bath...

The difference between an import lathe and an American made machine. Pics up!

I don't know how you can possibly do good work with that base plate warped like that. Probably very poor quality cast iron.

    Lathes

I am specifically referring to the 1340T, it is head and shoulders better than the regular 1340. Here is a link http://www.machinetoolonline.com/PM1340T.html and the regular one http://www.machinetoolonline.com/PM1340new.html You can see they are completely different machines. I don't...

    Lathes

The Harrison clone is the 1340T not the 1340. It goes to 2500 RPM as the 1340 only goes to 2000. That is one sure way to know you have the same one. I don't know anything about the bearing quality on them. I know my Nardini has a placard right on it that spells out Timken bearings.

    Lathes

Just a comment on the Harrison 300. The older ones were made in the UK but they have been made in China for a number of years now. I was told that the PM1340T IS a Harrison; same plant, same assembly line, different badge. I know a guy who has one and is tickled pink. I would have bought one...

What digital 1" micrometer to buy

Have you seen the newer Starrett stuff?? It is pretty junky. My old Craftsman is better that the new Starrett mikes. I know several journeymen machinists that use B&S, they are the ones that got me started on them. We have a bunch of Mitutoyos, Starretts, and some chicoms at work. I hate them...

What digital 1" micrometer to buy

It seems that I have to use a magnifier to read the vernier scales anymore!

What digital 1" micrometer to buy

I will disagree with some here. I have the standard vernier micrometers (Brown & Sharp are the only brand I use) and a few years ago I bought a Mitutoyo digital mike. It resolves to .00005". There are some things that I measure where this has real merit. I keep a few extra 357 batteries around...

Custom barrel manufacturers in the US

David Van Horne in Gilbert, AZ makes barrels down to 14 caliber. He is a pretty enterprising kind of guy. You might try him http://mygunroom.com/dvgunshop/index.html

    "Gunsmithing " steel ????

O-1 does not take bluing very well when it is in its usable form. Why use O-1 as it comes in the annealed state?? 1144 machines much nicer and takes bluing better and does most things well. If I am making a tool, I typically use A-2 tool steel as it can be quenched with just a fan- most folks...
