Benchrest competition for smooth bores ?

Louis, T-72s have smoothbore guns, not rifled ones. However, T-54s and T-55s (and Chinese copies thereof) formed the bulk of Iraq's tank forces during the First Gulf War. The 100 mm gun on these vehicles was rifled.

BR to F-Class. Possible fisrt timmer questions.

Good morning, Larry - am responding by quoting parts of your post You know where the matches are - go see one. Helps explain things far more than reading about one. Don't be surprised if you get drafted into shooting in the match though! As for rules, the complete NRA highpower rulebook is...

Any help with info on this ammo?

Russian made (obvious from the box). Available in loads for rifle and pistol. Apparently very accurate (one choice for USSR Olympic Teams), but hasn't been imported into the US for at least 20 years. Due to relative rarity, is apparently semi-collectable. I have never shot this ammo, by the...

    Polishing McMillan stock

Hello Melvin. Why not contact McMillan? They have a lifetime warranty on stocks, though am not sure if it covers scratches. But hey, it never hurts to ask. http://www.mcmfamily.com/mcmillan-stocks-warranty.php http://www.mcmfamily.com/mcmillan-contact.php

    ID this aircraft?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_F-82_Twin_Mustang http://www.johnweeks.com/p82/index.html Am guessing your acquaintence was named Walter Soplata? Reason I ask this is there are only 5 examples of this aircraft reamining. Two are at the National Museum of the United States Air...

    ID this aircraft?

Gary, You were not wrong re: carrier based dive bomber - Buccaneer was designed for this role. Unfortunately, the plane didn't meet expectations (less than desired performance, and poor handling characteristics), and never saw combat use in WW2. From the webpage linked to earlier, less than...

    STONER AR-10 Serial No 002

All, Commercially, the AR-10 was a flop, especially considering it was often "toured" with AR-15s. Apparently, the Armalite salesman had two cans (cases?) of 7.62 NATO ammo he never could find shooters for. This ammo was finally given away (i.e., not fired through an AR-10).

    6xc loads

Don't assume Across-the-Course shooting has lesser requirements in either accuracy or precision. (See http://celebrating200years.noaa.gov/magazine/tct/accuracy_vs_precision.html for a visual of both.) When firing from position, it is a given there is more "noise" affecting both. Still, 6xc...

    ID this aircraft?

Brewster SB2A "Buccaneer". ID'd by the bomb bay under the fuselage. (Dauntlesses didn't have these.) Easier still to ID, because the museum has a webpage on this plane at http://collections.naval.aviation.museum/emuwebdoncoms/pages/doncoms/Display.php?irn=9061&QueryPage=%2FQuery.php . (Okay...

    K31 Swiss mauser

Chuck, Swiss made GP 11 ammunition fires a 174 grain bullet which is .308" in diameter. (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7.5x55mm_Swiss#The_GP_11_cartridge ) Shouldn't be hard to find a match for this projectile, as there are many good bullets in and near the appropriate weight range...

Redfield International Sights for Model 70 30-06 Match Advice

Enahs, Are you looking to maintain the rifle in a "correct for the period" configuration, or are you looking to shoot the rifle in competition? If the latter, a good set of Internationals are the best iron sight choice for a Redfield product. If you aren't dead set on buying a Redfield...

    6xc

Jim, No, it was an F-Class Match, and it wasn't recent (2005) It's not listed in NRA records, probably because the record was superseded when the targets changed. In any case, the score would not have been eligible for an any rifle, any sight record, as any/any requires the only support to be...

    2010 Ig Nobel Prizes

What are IgNobel prizes awarded for? From the website at http://improbable.com/about/ Why We Do It Our goal is to make people laugh, then make them think. Montana 1999 Actions

It might be wise to pass on the stainless steel ones - apparently, one blew up in 1999. See the link at http://www.nra.org.uk/common/asp/content/content.asp?site=NRA&id=749 (UK NRA webpage.) I don't know more about the incident, and don't see links on the webpage for follow-up information.

ok to reload 5.56 for 223?

While the above is true for 30-06 and 7.62 NATO brass, it is NOT true for US made 5.56 NATO casings. Brass with "LC" (Lake City Army Ammunition Plant) "WCC" (Western Cartridge Company - a subsidiary of Winchester Ammunition) headstamps, and recent production "FC" (Federal Cartridge Company -...
