Need a few opinions on BR equipment

Short range, score and UBR. I'm using a 6PPC and finishing up a .30BR that needs a stock put on it. I have a rifle to start doing some 600yd to 1000yd shooting as well, but I need to sort out this gun handling issue before I start messing with that gun. I want to thank you guys for the...

Need a few opinions on BR equipment

Is a flat bottomed buttstock or a conventional V style buttstock preferred by most shooters? My stock is flat, and I'm not sure it's working that well. Pros and Cons of the Stop on the front rest. Some people seem fairly adamant about not using it. Regular sand or Heavy in the front bag?

From what I have read, it's supposed to be a 4064/Varget/RL15 burn range of powder.

    Newbie questions

I just started with a PPC a couple months ago also. Not new to reloading, so finding a good load wasn't much of a problem. Get some N133 and/or LT-32, some Bart's 68gr bullets and you will be on your way. The biggest learning curve for me was being able to set up the rest and rear bag in a...

    Bolt In Bolt Torque

This rifle doesn't have what I would really recognize as a recoil Lug when compared to typical factory rifles. It has a milled rounded groove on the underside of the receiver to align it. It's a BAT action, so I'm sure you're familiar with what it looks like. And yes, the bolts get tight all at...

    Bolt In Bolt Torque

Well, this is my first real Benchrest rifle and I didn't want to screw anything up before I even got a chance to shoot it :o

    Bolt In Bolt Torque

The rifle was shipped with a thin coat of some kind of light lube. Some of it seeped underneath one side.

    Bolt In Bolt Torque

Thanks for that! Yes, it's pillar bedded at each end, It was no where near 65 at the front. as a matter of fact, it was barely tight at all. The trigger guard was tighter! There was also a fluid of some kind between the action and stock. Not much, but that's a big no no from everything I've ever...

    Bolt In Bolt Torque

I just received a Benchrest rifle that happens to be a bolt in, and was wondering what the torque spec would be. I'm fairly certain that 45in.lbs will do it, but since I'm new to this I figured I would ask those with much more experience.

    On Competition:

Competition has driven quest for the equipment we enjoy today. If the wind isn't blowing, I don't even bother going. I don't have to compete to enjoy the challenge of precision shooting, but I also know that anything is easy until you have to do it better than someone else.

    Deep Throat

A Flat base bullet would, but a Tangent Ogive bullet such as the Hornady, or a VLD style bullet, Not necessarily. The Tangent Ogive places the diameter of the bullet that will engage the rifling farther back than the same bullet weight with a Secant Ogive. This all gets a little cloudy when you...

    Deep Throat

How well does the rifle shoot now? IMO, if the chamber is concentric with the bore, it may not be worth it to do a bunch of modifications just to get the bullets closer to the lands. I would just take the bullets it likes and seat them out to where they are .010 off the rifling and see if it...

    Remington 700 BDL

I concur with this. Whether the rifle has ever been shot or not, the throat on alot of Remington factory rifles is uneven from the chamber being reamed with a non-piloted reamer, just like my brand new .270 was. I bought a take-off barrel cheap, and the throat is very straight, so it's kind of a...
