6 PPC from 220 Russian Lapua

Wayne, I have a blow out barrel with a screw on breach that I use. I fill a 220 Russian up with 133, seat a chap 22 caliber bullet, and fire it into a big insulation roll. It just goes “thump”, and blows them out ready to neck turn. Your pistol powder is just as good. The main thing is to...

    6mm PPC: Seating depth

Yes. Or, at least it depends on the freebore in your chamber and thrilled being used. Most 6PPC chambers used by competitive shooters have around a .050 freebore, some a tad longer. When using typical 65 to 68 grn bullets made on .790 or .825 jackets, the ideal location for the base of the...

    Adjusting tracking

Tracking is one of those things on a Rail Gun that is overplayed. The truth is, as long as you bring it back against the stop each time, t really has no affect on accuracy. I do adjust my Rail to where it tracks perfect for one reason. If someone asks how well it tracks, I will let them peer...

    Heat wave

10 days ago, it was 8 degrees on the gulf coast of Texas. Today, it might hit 80. That has to be some kind o record.

    Some thoughts on bullet making.

George, that is what I am getting on these .925 30’s about 2/3 way up the jacket. Some are really good, some not so good.

    Some thoughts on bullet making.

I do use a little more than that. To get the correct seat pressure, I first measure the length of the 30 caliber jacket, which will be .925. I then seat a core and measure the length and OD. The ideal diameter coming out of the die is .3082. At this diameter, the jacket will shrink in length to...

Joe, it’s at my shop. I take a pic. Maybe I am being too anal.

    Some thoughts on bullet making.

One of the byproducts of the Tomball Gun Club being shut down for renovation and matches being canceled because of Covid is we all have time to sit around and REALLY confuse our minds with ideas and experiments. One I have been playing around with is bullet core seating. It is understood that...

That is pretty neat. First class all the way. I still have a love for Wheel Guns.

    3 jaw chuck

I have been a machinist my entire adult life, and I agree with this statement. We even have a 16 inch “set true” 6 jaw on one of our lathes. That puppy cost a pretty penny.

    3 jaw chuck

Did you open the link that Rubicon Precision posted in Post #2? A three jaw set true chuck is very handy for chambering. You can dial the ID in to .0001 inch if your lathe spindle has bearings that are capable.

    dating a rem 40-x

I had one of those in 25-06. It was a 40x Rangemaster with a 27.5 inch Stainless Steel barrel. It was a beautiful rifle and shot reasonably well. I removed the barrel and chambered it in 6BR to make my first BENCHREST Rifle. I took the barrel and put it on a Remington 700 BDL that was...

    South Dakota Bill

The Nation settled the issue back in 1865 of States wishing to break away and become their own Country. States can succeed. But then........ Honestly, I don’t know what the real situation is when it comes to States vs The United States. The last Amendment in the Bill of Rights, the Tenth...

6 PPC from 220 Russian Lapua

It’s really that simple. I expand, then neck turn, fireform. I purposely make my chambers to where the necked up 220 Russian actually needs to be bumped back a tad to chamber. When you fireform, smear a thin coat of sizing wax on the cases, that will help them take the form of the chamber...

    45ACP Pistol Project

I got to the Marksman indoor gun range today, it’s a 20 yard range in South Houston. The pistol performed great with the ammo I bought there, regular hard ball. Here are a few of my best 6 shot targets at 20 yards shooting off of a right hand barricade. It’s good to have a project come out...

    Anti Gun Law just filed

We had a President for four years who had some “Balls”, but millions of suburban white women decide that he was unfit because .”He Tweets”. And that is exactly who is to blame. President Trump had a record number of minority votes over any Republican in history. White men went 70 percent for...

    Jackie Schmidt Question

If you can get a scope apart far enough to remove what ever mounts the reticle, you can install a glass reticle with an etched crosshair. I did 36x Leupolds and Weaver T-36 scopes. One of the tricks is getting every little spec of dust off of the glass reticle. A spec of dust that is only .001...
