    Neck interference fit

A lot of the misconceptions concerning loaded round to neck clearance has it’s origins in the Houston Warehouse Experiments. As a competitive Benchrest Shooter, I would say ignore all of that. You might be able to get an extreme accuracy combination to shoot some tiny groups in a totally...

    Al's Perfect LR BR action???

Heck, we torque Big Block Chevy Main Bolts to 110 pounds feet, and they are just 1/2 inch. I have one of the original Kelbly rear entry wrenches for a Panda/Remington and I see no reason at all why you could not put 150 pounds feet on it. Am I missing something here?

    Match question.

The number of rounds is why the vast majority of Benchrest Group Shooters load at the Match. Most will generally have around 25 cases. And of course, there is always the possibility that you might have to adjust your load. By the way. The NBRSA lays out in detail all of the Courses of Fire in...

    seating how deep ?

I started out with the JGS 1045 reamer over 25 years ago. It has a .060 FB. This reamer was designed around FB bullets with around a 7 to 71/2 ogive with a relative straight shank. Good examples are the Fowler, Watson, and the Euber. Your reamer must be a little odd on the freebore, as .060...

“Battle of San Jacinto” at Tomball…..Results

The Tomball Gun Club in Texas hosted it’s final VFS Match of the season this Sunday. This Match was originally planned for February. But because of Covid, it had be put off until today. The turnout was a little light, but those that came got to face some very trying conditions. Richard...

    6BR, 1:10’’ twist, 107 gr. Bullets at 100 yards ?

I feel safe in saying that 99.9 % of Benchrest shooters shooting any 6mm bullet in the 105 to 108 weight range are using a 1-8 or faster twist. What would work great in that 1-10 would be the Barts 80 grn BT. They will shoot with BENCHREST accuracy. I have quite a few of them.

    Chamber reamer and stressproof steel

We machine a lot of Stressproof. It is a carbon/manganese alloy with a relative high sulphur content to enhance it’s machinability. It is very good machining steel. You will harm nothing.

    Barrel Fluting

To add to what Oliver88 said, the one thing that many metallurgist agree on is proper cryo treating does aid in the complete martensitic transformation in alloy steels. This is particularly important in applications where ductility at specific hardness levels is required.

another thought problem, NOT gun related

I watched the video and several others where physicists were explaining exactly how the downwind car works. The light came on when you finally see that the Prop is not driven by the wind, but by the wheels. The concept of comparing it to a lever system cleared up a lot of brain fog and got me...

    Need to rechamber

Norma would probably chamber since it does run smaller at the web than Lapua.

    Need to rechamber

It sounds like you have a chamber that was reamed for the original Remington or Norma brass. Lapua is larger enough at the web to cause problems. You can actually ream it by hand if you have the reamer and are careful. I have done this to old Remington 6BR chambers that had the same problem...

    Barrel torque

One thing for sure, if it isn’t tight enough, it won’t shoot. 75/80 fit pounds should be fine

    Barrel Fluting

The general consensus has been that on button rifled barrels, anything you do to the OD that involves removing metal can cause the ID to change. The big “if” is how much, and does it affect the barrels accuracy potential. There are those that say that they can feel feel the change by slugging...

    2021 NBRSA National Score results

I sure can’t add much to what Jason said, only to say that I had a great time and have no complaints. Well, one complaint. The conditions were about as bad as one could encounter while trying to keep ‘em on the X. What little brain power I have was totally depleted:p I can’t wait to do it again:D

    New Light Varmint 30BR

I have been wanting to build a LV 30BR to shoot in NBRSA Group for some time. I finally gathered up enough pieces to put one together. The stock is a Robertson I traded for and remolded in way of the action, the action is a Bat Nuevo, the trigger is a Bix&Andy, the scope a March High Master...

2021 NBRSA National score match notice

I got out my set of Nationals flags this afternoon and set them up in my backyard to touch up the orange and green on the vanes, and make sure everything was as it should be. They have been in storage for two years. I’ll be leaving early Saturday morning for Saint Louis. I’m really looking...

Roy, how do you do the reticle scoring? At Tomball I have been trying to figure out a method to do away with caliber advantage while still using the NBRSA targets.
