Lapua 220 Russian Primer pocket test

Michael, Actually, it would be interesting to test cases which have suffered enlarged pockets after 3-4 shots; then, a comparison could be made with cases that didn't develop that problem. Looking forward to reading about the test results.

    Lapua 220 Russian??

With respect, many shooters, particularly in the US, shot very hot loads without any problems (maybe a split neck occasionnally) for years until the enlarged primer pocket syndrome appeared at least 4 years ago. So, yes, we shot hot loads and, yes, the brass performed miracles. But it doesn't...

    Lapua 220 Russian??

Check my post and answers of 12-11-2016, 09:25 AM entitled Lapua .220 brass enlarged primer pockets. It has been reported directly to Lapua and we're waiting to hear from them. I noted their reply in the posts of this thread but we did give them 3 cases afflicted with this congenital disease...

Lapua .220 brass enlarged primer pockets

Thank you all for your input: it does reinforce my pre-conceived idea. BTW, I should have mentionned that the primers used were Federal M205 GM.

Lapua .220 brass enlarged primer pockets

Though it is hard to get definite answers, it seems that the brass in question had been bought between 4 and 2 years ago. The people I contacted were sure, though, that it wasn't recent lots.

Lapua .220 brass enlarged primer pockets

Carlos, I haven't had that problem, personnally, but I'll ask the shooters concerned and will let you know. Thanks.

Lapua .220 brass enlarged primer pockets

Thanks for your reply. We did pay attention to the lot numbers, so we don't think this was a factor in the latest instances (last week) as the recorded average velocity was a conservative 3240 ft/s. We do suspect a temporary problem with the brass: that's why I was wondering if anybody had...

Lapua .220 brass enlarged primer pockets

For the past couple of years, several shooters in Europe have found that they had enlarged primer pockets only a few shots after fireforming Lapua .220 into 6PPC. With normal loads of 133, normal seating depth etc., I am talking about experienced competitive shooters. Have you heard about it...

    .50 BMG information request

A French shooter asked me to put the following question to the forum: For a bullet in the 750-800 gr range, what powder would you recommend and an indication of the velocities to be expected. Rifle is a Steyr. Thanks for your input.

Sassuolo, Italy, metric record @ 100m

Actually, I haven't been able to find in the NBRSA a reference to records in metric. In the IBS, I found: HV 100 Meters 0.061 Allie Euber 9/6/81 I assume the "0.061" is in MOA, or inches. I'd welcome a link to the NBRSA metric records. If I may elaborate on 'other groups and organizations"...

Sassuolo, Italy, metric record @ 100m

Pascal and Carlos, No, the Sassuolo match was not NBRSA registered. I didn't invoque NBRSA in my post and if you read carefully what I posted: " I told him he had a possible world record in metric" and "The procedure to confirm the record is proceding ". I was aware that Carlos holds the LV...

Sassuolo, Italy, metric record @ 100m

I think it was a 6mm rifle, and, yes, there was a scope on it: easy with a scope! Joking apart, here is what Giorgio Da Pian used: Bat Machine with a Krieger barrel prepared by Südtirol Waffen gunsmith Ivan Piani Stock Terry Leonard Scope March EP ZOOM Bullets Berger Column 64,25 grs. Sassuolo, Italy, metric record @ 100m

Sassuolo, Italy, metric record @ 100m HV I was privileged to watch the last 2 shots not enlarging the tiny hole at 100m in the HV match on Saturday the 14th of May. I was sitting next to Giorgio Da Pian and had completed my firing early. I scanned left and thought, he'd better hurry or he's...

Are the dates and ranges already selected for the 2016 Nationals? I realize it is early but some European shooters would like to know. Thanks in advance!
