Michael, Actually, it would be interesting to test cases which have suffered enlarged pockets after 3-4 shots; then, a comparison could be made with cases that didn't develop that problem. Looking forward to reading about the test results.

With respect, many shooters, particularly in the US, shot very hot loads without any problems (maybe a split neck occasionnally) for years until the enlarged primer pocket syndrome appeared at least 4 years ago. So, yes, we shot hot loads and, yes, the brass performed miracles. But it doesn't...

Check my post and answers of 12-11-2016, 09:25 AM entitled Lapua .220 brass enlarged primer pockets. It has been reported directly to Lapua and we're waiting to hear from them. I noted their reply in the posts of this thread but we did give them 3 cases afflicted with this congenital disease...

Thank you all for your input: it does reinforce my pre-conceived idea. BTW, I should have mentionned that the primers used were Federal M205 GM.

Though it is hard to get definite answers, it seems that the brass in question had been bought between 4 and 2 years ago. The people I contacted were sure, though, that it wasn't recent lots.

Thanks for your reply. We did pay attention to the lot numbers, so we don't think this was a factor in the latest instances (last week) as the recorded average velocity was a conservative 3240 ft/s. We do suspect a temporary problem with the brass: that's why I was wondering if anybody had...

Got mine from Bruno, 100$, haven't looked back: carbide mandrel makes it so much easier.

For the past couple of years, several shooters in Europe have found that they had enlarged primer pockets only a few shots after fireforming Lapua .220 into 6PPC. With normal loads of 133, normal seating depth etc., I am talking about experienced competitive shooters. Have you heard about it...
