How would you like to have this guy on the next bench?

Agree with the last bit. On my range they might get a 50 caliber suppository....fired or unfired!

    N-201 powder

I used quite a bit of N-201 back in the 1980's. It had not been imported into Australia for some time, and I was lucky to uncover about 20 cans of it at a gunshop. In the 6PPC it shot very well with a full case of powder and 68gn bullets. Velocity from memory was around 3280fps from a 23 inch...

All new Australian shooting facility and TV show

It is not open to the public though. It is for the company to be able to test fire weapons up to 40mm - they handle military stuff as well. However, I could not help but think of the Houston Warehouse when I saw it!

question about shooting boat tail bullets.......

I normally shoot 67 grain BT bullets, and have had considerable success with 13.5 twist Kreiger barrels. In South Africa at the WBC, I used a 13.75 Bartlien with the same pills and did OK. I also have a 13.75-14 twist Bartlien that handles those bullets very well. Yesterday I was running in a...

    One barrel for LV/HV matches

Having traveled a fair bit Internationally, weight is always a problem when saddled with 23 Kg (around 50 pounds) limits on some airlines. I have been to a number of WBC's over the years and have always taken my best LV barrel, and that's it. Yes, you do take the chance of that barrel turning...

    Chargemaster inserts

If all you want is a smooth surface inside the powder tube of the Chargemaster, then go down to your local McDonald's hamburger joint and get a few of those drinking straws that they put in the milk shakes/smoothies. The straws over here are yellow with a red stripe and are a perfect fit!!

    Wichita Model 048?

Interesting thread. In 1980 I was at Kelbly's with some other Aussies and Ron Hoehn put up an ad on the notice board for a brand new Wichita Mini - USD$200 if I remember - in 6PPC bolt face. I bought it on the spot of course. Had it bolted to a cut rifled Atkinson (no relation) barrel, man was...

Bart Sauter Wins The Fifth African Benchrest Regionals

What a great report. Yes, South Africa is a very good place to shoot benchrest, mainly because of the atmosphere and camaraderie between the SA competitors. The Aussies thoroughly enjoyed their time over there in 2009. The hospitality shown to us was outstanding. Just a couple of points: ..here...

    Hawkeye supernova upgrade...question

Yes, the LED gives a much whiter light (to my eyes). I can certainly see a lot better with the LED conversion.

    Hawkeye supernova upgrade...question

Yeah, well I bought the LED upgrade at one of the local camping stores down here. Made a BIG difference, as the light is now bright white instead of a yellowy colour. Cost AUD $16.00

Twist rates why choose one over another

That's interesting Frank. In 2009, I used one of your 13.75 barrels at the WBC in South Africa. Stuart Elliott and I were fortunate enough to be part of the gold medal 2-Gun team and doubled up on my rifle - that barrel was superb! I have since managed to obtain another one in 13.75, and it is...

    Moly bullets Friend or Foe?

Generally I will run a yardage (5 targets) without cleaning - unless it is humid; if so, I will run patches of Butch's or Pro Shot thru the bore after three targets. At the change of yardage I just run patches through until they come out clean, then leave the bore wet until ready to shoot again...

Twist rates why choose one over another

For years it was the norm for 6PPC shooters to use a 14 twist. In 1980 I was at the IBS Nationals in Syracuse NY and met Jerry Hart. I managed to buy from him a HV barrel with a 12 twist. Man, that barrel was a ripper. I shot everything in it from 62 to 70 grain bullets and it just devoured them...

    Moly bullets Friend or Foe?

I started using moly bullets around 1996 I think. I shot some barrels with and some without, and to be honest could not tell the difference as far as accuracy was concerned. What it did do though was allow me to run a whole aggregate without cleaning with no loss of performance. I had two...

IBS rule on 10.5 lb weight

Call me old fashioned, but all of my rifles are built a minimum of 2 ounces under the official weight. The only additions I make are mirage tubes which weigh next to nothing anyway. I have competed all around Australia and various countries around the world and never had a rifle weight problem...

    Scottish 322

I think it was around 1980 that we imported some Scottish powder from the Nobel's factory down to South Australia. It arrived in 20kg tins marked Nobels Neonite. Well, we thought they had sent the wrong stuff, but no, it was the real thing - H322. I recall that it burned a bit hotter than what...

Issue with new Bix N Andy trigger install in BAT action (Bolt closes really hard)

Ben Avery Range windy? Who Knew? Seriously though, when we were there for the WBC in 1997, it blew down the huge marquee that we were reloading in, and it's the only range where we had to secure the wind indicator poles with tent pegs and ropes! Brendan Atkinson

    6 mm ppc velocity

I must be old fashioned. I do not see the need to use loads that abuse the equipment. Yes, I know shooters who have used up to 31.0+ grains of Vit in the search for wind beating 3450 fps loads. They also throw the shells away after very few shots, and wrestle with the bolt. I use loads that give...

For your enjoyment: Sir Charles shooting at 200 at the 2013 WBC (article with video)

I also had the privledge of watching Charles shoot at the WBC, and I noted that his BAT action was a chrome moly version. I am told that these are a lot smoother. That would be advantageous, as the only criticism that I have of my own BAT DS is that the bolt needs constant lube to remain slick...
