Best action(s) for a rail gun

I use a Stolle Panda left feed right eject for 6mm PPC. I find the Stolle action a little 'faster' than the BAT, but one must still keep some Friction Free or the like on the bolt for running those occasional good conditions.

Loss of a Great Competitor RON HOEHN

That is indeed sad news. I met Ron in 1980 when I visited Kelblys range for the NBRSA Nationals. He was very helpful and sold me a brand new Wichita Mini action which I shot for many years. In later years he supplied me stock tape, which I could not source in Australia. A really nice fellow and...

    break free

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't this stuff originally used for the electric cannons on the gunships in Vietnam?

How well do "Super Feet" work?

Super feet work extremely well for me. A number of ranges now insist that they MUST be used by shooters. I think the WBC held in France was one of these as was the WBC in 2013 in Sydney. This is to protect the bench tops from over enthusiastic hammer wielders. I ran the 2018 Nationals here at...

    Which scope reticle?

My thoughts entirely. I also find that a dot is much better to use when there is mirage around.

    Old ammo safe for barrel?

I was given some Eley Tenex from a deceased estate a while back It was old...like in the original orange paper boxes with the bullets all jammed in together. The bullets had a bit of a whitish tinge to them, but the brass still looked very good. I took these out to the range and put them...

    TOP actions of the SS

One well known Australian bench rester painted all of his rifles green, because he didn't want his wife to know how many he had!!!

Ed Shilen has left the range

Yes, we are diminished. When I first started in benchrest around 1975, I ordered a complete DGA LV rifle in .222 from Ed Shilen. The Australian Shilen distributor was right here in my home town of Adelaide, and the Manger (Ray Stone) was a personal friend of mine. A few years later I shot a...

    Loose primers?

Interesting thread. I too have recently experienced loose primers for one of my barrels. I believe that how you fire-form them has a lot to do with it. I normally fire-form using three grains less than my match loading and any old 67 grain bullet that is handy. This method pops them out nicely...

Crank Baits and Bullets ? Do they have a shelf life.

Maybe some bullets aged better than others (like wine!). I have some original Remington 52gn HP Match from the mid 1970's that will still shoot bug holes out of a 22PPC. Likewise some Watson 68gn bullets that I bought from Ed at Kelbly's way back in 1980. They still shoot just fine.

n133 thrown charges at a match

I have followed this thread with interest, as for years I have been telling people that N133 does NOT throw consistent charges from any of the powder measures that I have seen - including some well constructed custom jobs. I have used a Chargemaster for quite some time now for this reason, and...

1/16" MOA dot for Leupold Competition scope

Well they have done it for me, but it was in 2010 and was organised by Alan Tucker - I understand he has now left the company. I found that the Leupold 1/8th dot (in the 45x Competition scope) was too big, but the new one is excellent. Brendan Atkinson

Can someone tell me the "real" difference between 205 & 205m primers.....

I use the Federal 20M's - why? dunno, probably because everybody else does, and if we are honest with ourselves that just might be a common reason. How would the average guy test them anyway? I have been shooting benchrest since 1975 and over that time have used primers from all the major...

    n133 ppc load

Equipment lists have been part of the sport for a very long time. As to the accuracy of those lists, well I guess that what is listed in the actual components of the load might have been what the shooter started out with, but is not necessarily what they finished with. Some shooters use a...
