I tend to think crown placement is more important than the chamber itself. When I did my 1st barrel years ago I didn't like how it shot out the gate. I'd bought 3 different reamers so I cut the chamber off & used another reamer & cut 1/2" off the muzzle. The gun then shot well enough & was...

While the barreled action is in the lathe I put an indicator on the back of the bolt with the fp resting on the case with a pulled bullet & dumped powder of course. My zero will be ,200. Cock the bolt(this will give fp travel) & fire it. Where the indicator stops under .200 is my measurement. Keith

My reamer does not have a stop. A PTG Match reamer I have does. It shows a .630 length. Up until I did this last barrel it is what I'd had a little success with. Shot Eley much better than the Lapua. It too has the 1 1/2 deg. leade. Keith

I used a "Nevius" reamer on the last barrel I did & have .035 engraving on the lot of Midas I was using at the time. Shoots Eley fine. Keith
