What's become of "alinwa"?

Main reason is they get sick of hearing how stupid their methods that win are. Every question they answer with experience is questioned by someone like "sits in trees"
 
I suspect many of those guys are too busy shooting and tinkering with their guns and equipment to fool with a venue where they're unlikely to learn anything themselves. Thankfully, guys like Bart and Todd Tyler occasionally weigh in with good stuff.
 
OK, I think y'all are wrong about that real name thing but I'm going to set up a forum where folks either use their real name or say up front who they are. How would y'all suggest I verify the name they are using?

I don't see any real reason in having a discussion about this stuff amongst ourselves....perhaps y'all know something I don't. What will I name the forum?

I'll look around to see what others are doing and mull over suggestions by email:

Ding ding ding....we have a winner!

I used to look at this forum once or twice a day. Now I look at it once a month. I see it coming to once a year very soon.
As with many, many things in life, a few have ruined it for the majority.
I Don't need it. Life's too short to deal with all the armchair theorists who have nothing but time and post counts going for them. Hell, at one point not too long ago, I saw that a certain person (who shall remain anonymous) who has attended one match in his life, and came in almost dead last at that match, had contributed some kind of garbage to four or five sub-section's "last posts", and had subscribed to three or four more other threads within those subsections! Suddenly he felt his meager accomplishment warranted him the right to answer every question asked on this board, and argue facts with actual, proven winners!? Even if he was giving away pearls, his constant posting inflates the value of those pearls in no time flat. And I highly doubt many folks here consider his contributions as pearls! Either way, when there is that much refuse being smeared around, who wants to throw real pearls into it? I can't think of anything that will run off knowledgeable and worthy contributors faster than that. And when they're gone, the idiots will rush to fill that vacuum. That's where this board currently sits in my opinion, and I'm in no hurry to get on here and ruin my day anymore. I'd rather go to the range and shoot and talk with real shooters.;)
Sorry Wilbur. But I hope you realize my honesty comes as respect for you and what you're trying to figure out. I could have sat here and blown smoke up your nose, but that is beneath you and I, and will help nothing.
 
Wilbur I see the name thing as a nonstarter. It is easy to figure out who the ones worth listening to are. I just see a lack of new topics for shooters that know how to win. Not that much new. Even March scopes are old news. Winners have most things figured out. New shooters ask an intelligent question will get plenty help on here.
If you want a suggestion here's one. What's your thought on a seller feedback in your classifieds. I really don't use it because of that.
I still say Thanks to you and the ones that share. This is a wonderful site.
 
My thoughts on this, since it has derailed

Like most posts on BR Central, this post has gone off topic. Then again, that's how it's always been. I started hanging out here back around 1996 or so.
I've watched my share of good and bad people come and go. Thankfully some didn't hang around very long. Some left and came back, left, then came back again. Some left us way too early and took their insight, wisdom, tact and good nature home. Some have been plainly driven away because of others hard headedness. Not necessarily because they were right or wrong, simply because they were different in their thinking.

I don't post very much because there is almost always someone on here that has a knowledge base much better than mine. Their time behind the trigger is more and usually their answer is just more eloquent. ..

Wilbur, what I would like to see is simply this. Since we have to register to use the site, a few simple rules must be acknowledged (twice, like I did with my kids) . Primarily the name calling, trolling giving bad advice without full knowledge and a few other basic rules of good behavior. If they don't follow this then they get banned for 30-90 days. After that, it's for good. We don't need children here, we need adults who like to talk BR and exchange ideas and call each other old farts

Wilbur does an incredible job of administering this wonderful site and there is a vast pool of experience and knowledge available here on BR Central. Yes, we will always have those that are more interested in stroking their egos than sharing factual information but that's the case in every walk of life. :rolleyes: Don't worry 'bout it! :mad:

If someone hurls an undeserved verbal spear at you, just ignore them. :cool: I know it's hard to do but that's the best way to handle a bully. Don't misunderstand; I'm not saying we shouldn't challenge someone that has posted something that is definitely wrong or might mislead a new shooter or get someone hurt but if it's obviously just an attempt to toot one's own horn or insult someone else, just ignore it. We humans have a natural tendency to give too much attention to the egotists of the world instead of concentrating on the wise, hard working people who hold it all together and make it happen.

I think a lot of folks quit posting because they could better understand each other by directly discussing it at a match. They got a better perspective of another's opinion by talking face-to-face and hearing their thoughts from their mouth. So much more can be communicated by tone of voice, body language, facial expression and so forth than emoticons and LOL's. Alinwa is right......misunderstanding is a huge problem with communicating on a forum.
Wilbur, I cannot say enough words to explain how I feel you have been as level-headed and fair as you have been over the years I've been reading and posting on this site. I don't think that very many of us could have been as successful at it as you. Agree, disagree or agree to disagree is one issue that seems to be the downfall of the communication of these forums. I am as guilty as the next for not being understanding and forgiving in some situations. Sometimes in life it is best to know what not to say as to know what could be said. The passion of some of these folks is exactly what drives them to fail....me included. But that very passion is what drives the competitiveness at the matches we so dearly love. At the end of the day, in most cases, the most passionate competitor wins out over a field of fellow shooters that just didn't have enough heart and soul in their game to surpass them.

I was not going to get into this, but what the h___ll. Me thinks some of you people are wrong. #1 I would be strongly in favor of using your own name, I have since day 1, I am me! if you don't like me! tough, you can't keep everyone happy, and only an idiot tries, and Wilbur is far from an idiot. #2 Every morning I go on another website where I am not suppose to be and I look at some of the posts there, and after I stop laughing I go to BC. Nothing that is said here can match what I read, so when one person says something, I just laugh it off and go to the next post. Oh Well! such is life, just think some day I will be as old as Francis, (snigger) :) EH!!!!!!!!!!!!

See, CCBW, another seasoned genius like meself that thinks it should be mandatory to use your real name. I agree with Gammon, if I were as old as Francis, I might try to cover up my face, but not my name,,,,right Jan??

MAKE FOLKS USE THEIR REAL NAMES that will sort out the "Sits in Trees" from real folks who carry this nation forward on their backs with their PPC's and hummer barrels!!!

When I logged on one day a few years ago I couldn't get into the system. Wilbur sent me the link to reset everything more than once. It just quit working. Tried to create a new account with my name and I couldn't, so, now I just use my first initial. Close enough, I suppose.
At least I don't have to put Francis in my tag line. .. ;^)

That's why I use my name without spaces between the first and last name. When Wilbur had that crash several years ago, about 2003 IIRC, I couldn't log back in or set up an account.

He has a tinfoil hat to keep them out of his thoughts. Prolly keeps us safe from some unknown force or three also.
Personally, I just use a replica Minnie Pearl straw hat to keep safe

I think this is exactly why some people get offended and leave the board or argue with one another over what amounts to nothing.

My comment to Jerry, even though I have never met him was clearly written in fun. I then poked fun at myself and used a winky face to emohasize my point. The follow up post from him resorted to calling me illiterate, even though we have never met. I'm very sure I don't fall into that category, so no big deal. He doesn't know me. He might be having a bad day.
There could be any number of reasons he made the comment he made, so I'm not going to get all pissy about it. The fact of the matter is, I made a smart-assed comment to someone I haven't met. I don't know him or his character. I don't know what's going on in his life, just what happens in mine.
My life is great. I have thick skin and a pretty decent sense of humor, so I'll just chalk this up to another learning experience.

if my comments bothered you, upset you, or were just plain old out of line in any way, please accept my apology. We haven't met, and I had no right to make smart-assed comments to you.

Now, since I'm up here in Port Huron MI, until Sunday, should I go and pick on Francis for a while?
