Brian, You are too old to adopt. I couldn't bend you to my ways. Fiddleback is not a weakness in the wood and is very desireable. Check the grain flow from the forearm through the grip. That is important. I will try to post some photos of my 458Lott and you can check the grain flow on it.

Butch is correct on this issue in fact many stockmakers prefer non--fiddleback blanks because they are easier to work and finish.

very nice rifle .
i don't think some honest wear from a few hunts if going to hurt it too much.
i'd would at least get a couple hunts out of it before starting another project.
