Looking for some help

Hello to all~
Looking for someone who has a weekend or a couple of weekdays to help me develop a load for my benchrest rifle and teach me how to use all the equipment that I purchased over 10 years ago. I got started into benchrest at the Canastota Conservation Club in 1999 that was sponsored by the Hart people. Due to work schedules, I was not able to put any of it to use but now that I am retired, I now have the time to devote to it. If anyone is interested in helping me out I would certainly pay for your time. I am free to travel and would like to spend two or three days with someone. I shoot a 6mm ppc rifle that I purchased from Bob White that I haven't even shot yet. Thanks

Well, I think it's a damn shame this post has been up all day, and not one shooter has offered to help this fellow learn the game!

If he were closer to VA, I would have gladly spent an afternoon with him, free.

All this rhetoric about getting new shooters in the sport.......

Well Cherrywood, it's winter in "The Great White North". We are getting a light dusting of snow. Might last a couple days. 4-8". You should get this Storm in about 8-12 hrs......Make that 4-6 hrs.
Good time to do some reading.
I am going to re-read the Tony Boyer book.
And will prolly re-read The Ratigan book.

Both good books. I think there are a couple of clubs your way. IBS. Maybe NBRSA.....
You tube has some stuff. Look up for Jack Neary. Someone did a vid. of his seminars.
I sat next to Jack at my first NBRSA Tournament. And at my first Super Shoot. A really great guy.
And I earned my first trophy this year. My second year at Registered Benchrest.
But, there are a lot of great folks in Benchrest Shooting. Hopefully, there is someone near you.

Cherrywood,
I am, unfortunately, a little too far for a visit and probably not the best person to "teach" you anything, but I would like to formally invite you to the score matches in CT this year. I will be posting the schedule within the next week or so, and though it may not be your primary game there are a lot of folks who just love to shoot benchrest.
You may be close enough to Dunhams Bay, NY to make it to a few of their winter league group matches. If you go to www.internationalbenchrest.com and go to the "schedule" section you can find the dates there. You will probably meet someone closer to you who is more in the know than I am.
Good luck with your new rifle, and let me know if there is anything I can do.
Mike

Cherrywood,
If you don't mind "roughing it" and can make it to the Rochester, NY area, you can hang out with me for a couple of days, shovel some snow, drink some beer, eat some venison, listen to some John Prine and Nanci Griffith on the stereo, make some bullets and get your rifle set up and workin',then we'll shoot a winter league Sunday match at Camillus or Canastota. You can meet all the other local BR guys here and then go home. e-mail me at jnader@rochester.rr.com to set up schedule

Tim~
Thank you for all the info. I'll certainly do the reading. There are not any clubs that are IBS or the like up here. Closest is in CT or ME. Thanks again.

Mike~
Thank you for replying. I certainly will keep CT in mind come summer. I'll keep an eye out for the schedule.
Best,
Chuck

Joel~
Hey that's a wonderful offer. I'll be sending you an email. Thank you very much.
Chuck

Thank you Mike for the offer. Perhaps I'll see you in CT this summer.

Best

I spent an absolutely fantastic 4 days with Joel Nader a couple weeks back. This is one terrific guy. He is so knowledgeable in this field of accuracy. He is both a very kind and patient man. We made friends right away and became life long friends. Anyone having this man as a friend is indeed blessed.

There use to be some guys from the Boston area who came to Maine to shoot with us and I think they frequent the Redding Club there. There were some Cast bullet Benchret Shooters from the Boston area also who use to come to Augusta. This was years ago and they were using 30 BR's back then in Cast Bullet shooting.

In amazes me that in a population as large as the one in the Southern New England states there aren't more Benchrest shooters. There has to be 7M people there and one would think the total numbers alone would simply dictate a large interest in both ultimate accuracy and competition but it doesn't seem to. There has to be a ton of benchrest Rifles around in a population that large.

I lived in centeral Ct for 13 years and have roamed around the state there as well as the rest of Southern New England and have seen many many gun clubs and rifle range signs so there would be venues. So, what does it take to bring all those Benchrest Rifles together? Answer: Usually one person who is willing to pick up the gauntlet and provide an oportunity, Eh Miike?. Nothing happens in a vacum.

After being involved for a bit now, it seems to me that Rimfire Benchrest is a Natural for the more Urban environments. It is a whole lot less noisy and requires a lot less room to hold matches. I could imagine RF Benchrest Leagues not unlike Bowling Leagues, especially where there are several million people.

Four days with Joel Nader...............wasn't there a movie about that back in the 70's??

Dave,
You know, you try and do somethin' nice for somebody and all you get is grief. Just like the time I showed that "Jason guy" how to use a chain saw, nothin' but grief. Then there was that "Freddie guy" I showed how to sharpen knife blades, nothin' but grief ! At least this "Chuck guy" can cook. He showed up with enough seafood, porkchops and booze to fit right in around here.Even shoveled some snow.
