Steve, I've moved on to LT30 in both my 30BR's.At their new price point, i believe that ship has sailed for me. I've switched over all my guns to 130
I agree that H4198 is a great powder for the 30 BR, i still have a decent amount of the old stuff on hand and i will test it against the other powders. Unless it shows me a performance advantage, I'll go with the cheaper option.Steve, I've moved on to LT30 in both my 30BR's.
I've never seen a 30BR that wouldn't shoot H4198, though.....which makes having some on hand worthwhile. -Al
Al, do you think that the faster burn rate means it burns more completely, leaving less fouling?Pete, don't overlook the 'other N'...N120. Some are having very good luck with it. It's quite a bit cleaner than N130. -Al
I have a jug of it Al. I have only tried it in a couple of tests and it was ok. I have been having good results with LT-30 which I have around 30 pounds of so I've been burning it offAl, do you think that the faster burn rate means it burns more completely, leaving less fouling?
I think you're right, Jerry. The bulk density of an individual powder is likely another factor.Al, do you think that the faster burn rate means it burns more completely, leaving less fouling?
A blender would probably shorten those kernels. My dream powder for the 30BR's would be a short cut version of H4198 (kernels about 2/3rds the current length).
H4198SC has a nice Hodgden-y ring to it.![]()
It's a bit like Ben And Jerry's 'Chunky Monkey'......A blender would probably shorten those kernels.![]()
I found both IMR and Hodgdon to be a little crunchy at times so I use a powder trickle when testing these two. The H4198 shoots a little better on paper but there is really no difference when shooting Idaho Whistle Pigs.I think you're right, Jerry. The bulk density of an individual powder is likely another factor.
