Hello All,
I am new to the forum. I was refered here by George Vias of HTG gunworks in Boise Idaho. I have a great deal of respect for George and when he mentioned this forum I had to join.

I wanted to let everyone know that Hydro-Dip has a free givaway contest running. If you have not had a chance to see what Hydro-Dip is doing in the benchrest world, this is a perfect opportunity!

See enclosed 6PPC we just completed.

Customized finishes

I have personally viewed some of the rifles and pistols that this Company puts custom finishes on and they are excellent to say the least. From the many different types of camo to carbon fiber to candy apple finishes, I have yet to see one that I did not like the looks of.....

I am going to have them put custom finishes on my 30BR and my Hunter rifle....maybe if the rifles look really good, they will want to shoot better for me.

They have a wild looking bright orange carbon fiber BR stock on their gallery...kind of like it......but they have a lot of patterns to choose from ....going to be hard for me to make that final choice..

They just finished a stock for me. It's in the "little brown truck" headed my way as we speak. They sent me a couple of pictures of it, now I'm feeling like a kid on Christmas morning.

Another company that does the same process had my stock for 4 months!!! Long story. Hydro-dip took care of it it about 2 weeks. Needless to say, I know who will be getting my business. I'll post a couple pictures when I get it put back together.

Price list

I checked their price list, and for a Rifle stock, it's around $100, plus Insurance and shipping.

How Durable is the coating (scratch resistant) ? What type of prep do you need do do for wood stocks ?

Hydro-dip finish durability

The finishes are clear coated with either a matt or high gloss finish. The clear coats are the same as you would find on your autombile , very durable and scratch resistant.

I think the price for dipping something like a camo finish on a basic stock is around the $100 mark but not sure of the actual price on the really custom looks that take a lot more work.

The best thing to do would be to take a gander at their website and/or give them a call for specific details----the way I look at it, at my age, is I might as well look pretty while I am out practicing...kills two birds with one stone

I stripped the old finish off my stock. They prepped, finished, and shipped it back to my for $170. The price varies depending on the pattern that you choose.

Butch,

Nope, I wouldn't laugh at that question at all. Being a fellow BR competitor, the weight limits are always a concern at the competition level.

If the stock is stripped, then the overall weight should not change much from what is there already. I have asked these guys this already and they say the film itself, being a print, as far as weight goes, is miniscule. Any weight is in the base paints and clearcoat.

If I were on the very edge of a weight limit tho...I would most certainly consider stripping it down and starting from scratch rather than try to figure out somewhere else to eliminate the weight....depends on the stock configuration and....well.....you know the drill....

Hydro-Dip Pricing

What price range do these DIP JOBS run??

Hal

This depends on the condition/type of stock, type of substrate, type of finish desired.

A plain synthetic stock (example remington 700) in matte finish, camouflage costs $99.00.

Benchrest stocks cost $150.00-$200.00 for a clean Mcmillan style (no pinholes) stock in high gloss in one of our stocked patterns. If there is additional body work there will be an additional $50.00-$100.00 charge depending on the condition. If a customer wants a custom job (i.e. candy coat, custom lettering, fade, etc. this will be additional) call for pricing and details on all custom work.

We use only the finest products in the industry (DuPont Urethane Topcoat) rated at a minimum of 10 years U.V. life.

As for durability, our stocks turn out as nice as a show car, our finishes are very durable and will last a lifetime if cared for properly. Keep solvents off the our coatings, and for cleaning just use warm water with a micro fiber towell and then wax often. If you want to brushbeat with your gun (not that many benchresters will bust just in case) I recommend our matte finish.

We offer a 1 year guarantee on our finishes for our craftsmanship.

Hydro-Dipping Or No?

Hi Jefferson, My apologies on not providing my first name or whole name (Adam J. Minic)

Thanks for the welcoming. I am enjoying Benchrest Central, lots of knowledge to gain here!

I understand how you feel, I have a neat story for you regarding this matter. One of the 30 br's (viper blue flame BR) in our gallery shot a perfect match in Oregon two years ago and missed the world record by 1/16th. This was before his shiny new coating. He wanted to reward his gun for performing...hehe.

A shiny coating will not make your gun shoot better, thats up to the shooter, no doubt about that.

We felt it was time to offer some high quality customer service, the latest in technology, and affordable pricing for something we are passionate about. Some may not agree we are affordable, please call a custom paint facility and compare pricing (average benchrest with custom paint runs $500-$1000).

We are blessed to be able to work on items that have so much meaning to their owners.

Wood Stocks

Price list, states that wood stocks are higher.

Hi Fred,
On average wood stocks are $20.00-$50.00 higher in cost. The reason being is the additional priming/sealing phase. In some cases we also have to fill pinholes and do bodywork which costs $50.00-$100.00 depending on the condition.

look forward to seeing your products on the line this summer, will have to send a stock down (rats more paperwork to do)

Jeff

Big Dipper -

Although I find some very cool flame patterns in your gallery, I don't see a flame section in your patterns... I'd like to know what's available.

Thanks, Dick
