AR Class

If the IBS powers wanted to attract new shooters why did they go with the AR platform instead of a Factory class, model it around the Remington VSSF, Savage 12LRPV, Kimber, Cooper ,Howa and half a dozen more out the box not a damn thing done rifles, if you allow any mod's your just starting a jr VFS,,,,,,,,,,,want to see it work??? show up in Dublin GA.(home of the Shamrock) and see 10-18 Factory shooters slug it out on any 2nd saturday of the month,,,,

the wind is my friend,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Dave,
It is simple math. How many factory shooters are there and how many AR shooters are there??? Count how many are on line on this site then log onto AR.com and see how many are there.
I personally have no interest in shooting one of these guns but others may and affording them a place to compete (IBS) is "simple math."
Can you say "FISH ON!!!???"

Woot!

Just added a 8-32x scope, EGW bag rider stock ext, and bi-pod to the AR. New trigger is sitting on the table.

YEE HA! What kind of trigger did you get? I'm looking at the AR Gold.

Holder,

Let me know what you think of the AR Gold. I have been thinking about one of those.

I asked the President

of the club I am going to run matches at this year to post a notice and a sign up sheet for an AR class. We'll see how it goes. We have over 4 months for those interested to come forward. I am predicting we won't get 10 names and of those 4 will show up for the first match, two the secons and one every other match for the rest of the year, not unlike the factory class.

Don't forgrt, there are way more "Factory" bolt guns out there and those folks aren't crashing the gates to shoot Benchrest.

Do benchrest groups ever really go out and advertise or recruit? or is it all word of mouth and just for ppl in the know already? I mean I don't ever recall seeing any kind of flyers, ads, or anything for that matter. I mean other then posts on a couple websites that cater to the benchrest community...

Stick your hand out to folks, be friendly and tutor them into shooting a bug hole with your rifle.

If they shoot a bug hole or two and aren't hooked, they ain't ever going to be.

That's what got me. Since then I've been a one-man economic stimulus plan.

Ar15

I was hoping to take mine out this weekend but this snow put a damper on my plans.

I haven't seen too many Garands, FALS, SKS, AKs, etc. that could consistently hang with an AR-based rifle in terms of accuracy...

i had a garand "built" . mounted a t-36 on it . very awkward. i shot a .27 .31 and .29 with last time i went down to ben avery.

accuracy speaks makes a rail( split /reversable) designed for long range and extending the scope ring base.
it also raises the rings...it just aint real friendly trying to get low on those ar's.

Wow Adrian, that looks familiar, but it isn't a southpaw version. Gotta remove those sling loops for the bag and rest. Mine has the JP trigger, but I'll let you know if I decide to go to the AR Gold. You think there's any way we're getting into the range this Sunday? I've already done my mea culpas.

I got the JP rifles adjustable one. There are a ton of trigger options in single stage, and 2-stage. There is even a set trigger on the market.

in a word or two...

and why not a "factory class", cause unless its one make and model, its a dollar war....look at what savage has put out as "factory" rifles. a kimber against a howa ???lol
and yes my club has three factory classes(varnmit, hunter, sniper). and if it does not win, sell it and buy something else......money, money money.

Could'nt the same arguement be made about the AR class?
Perhaps even more so?
How many box stock Ar's do you expect to see win? Do you expect noone to throw money into an AR to make it competitive?
How much $$$$ have you spent on yours?
And yet you see nothing wrong with competing against someone who just pulled one off the shelf. just sayin.....

Besides that, have fun;)

maybe/kinda/probably but not exactly, they are all built on one platform, which sorta levels the playing field. putting a howa against a kimber is is not.

acutually most of mine are farily inexpensive( which is why i went this path). most parts bought at cost.
upper/lower 200, trigger 100, bolt arrier assy 100, buttstock used 25, grip 5, lower parts kit less trigger 30, bbl chambered 450, free float tube 60, forearm flat 70...so 1040 plus scope, base and rings( i bought my 36x's when the new luepolds came out and people were dumping the older 36x's) so some where around 1500...still a lot less than a br rifle.

I've been looking for a flat (more or less) for my AR when it's riding the bags. No luck so far (more or less).

Thanks

Roy

i have my local machine shop build a 3 x 7 x1/2 aluminum plate. then mill a radius groove down the middle ( 7 length) to match my free float handguard.
i then glue and screw it to the handguard. screws are a pain...think i may glue this one(had it built yesterday) then drill and pop rivet in place. fill the rivet holes to regain the flat smooth surface.
