AR Class

Get your ARs out - It's real. It was discussed at the IBS Meeting this weekend. We'll be ready by the time the IBS season starts.

Adrian,

Thanks for serving with Harley Baker on the ad hoc AR committee to finalize rules on this. I have attached a DRAFT set of guidelines the committee will finalize by March 1. I know that Harley wants to consult with other sanctioning bodies that hold AR matches. We don't need to reinvent the wheel.

A couple of things to remember:
++This is an experiment for a one-year trial
++Clubs MAY have an AR class, but don't have to
++Nationals are NOT affected - no ARs at any Nationals

Hey, we will see how this goes over. It might be a case of "remember when we tried...". Or it might bring a lot of new shooters into our shooting sport.

Within the next day or so, we will post on the IBS website a summary of the Annual Meeting. I finished it last night, but want to make some minor corrections before posting.

Jeff

Looks pretty good so far... might have to put together a new upper and give it a go (been needing an excuse for a new slow-twist upper for varmints anywho).

Just one thought... I realize that most people who are truly 'serious' about accuracy are probably going to avoid a flash hider or compensator like crazy, but I think you'll severely ham-string the class and limit the potential turn out by limiting compensators. Maybe word it something to the effect 'no brakes, flash hiders okay'?

Anyhow, it should be interesting to see how it turns out.

Thanks,

Monte

I agree. Flash hiders are common on AR's and aren't nearly as offensive to other shooters as a brake. JMHO.

Mike,

Do you have an AR?

Adrian

Hello Adrian. Yes, I've got one or so. I plan on having somthing to shoot in a 30 caliber(30 Major) if the class goes over well. I'll put another upper together and come loaded to shoot in case there are others attending and shooting AR's that day. I hope it goes over well. I just think it's a great venue for new shooters to get into the sport. They outnumber us about a million to one, sooo.

Boy, 18lb. weight limit. Who needs a brake?---Mike Ezell

Adrian, that is very interesting. Now I guess I have to work up loads for the AR. Sounds like fun. Good addition!

AR's

Does the term "AR" mean any "Auto Rifle", or can semi-auto's based on such platforms as the M1-A, Garand, FN, etc, compete in this class?

Or, is it limited to the standard "Black Rifle" platform that we all recognize as based in the originol AR-15 design?..........jackie

It is limited to Armalite AR style rifles (AR15s and AR10s).

Yah, I'm glad you kept the M1A's out too. Then I wouldn't have an excuse to go out and buy anything new.

Oh, my. Kind of wish I'd gone that route instead of the new sporting clays gun. But, OMG, you should see the wood on it...

No... but I have heard anecdotal tales of the reciprocating mass of the bolt flying back and forth having an adverse effect on some scopes.

I guess in that case you need the strength and brawn of a Nightfarce 12-42x56mm!!!! Would it be better to tear up a cheap scope... or put a way more expensive scope that supposed to be stronger on the rifle and tear it up too?

I guessed as much. You have your Stag yet? I'm going shopping tomorrow.

Question

is this AR class short range (100-200) or long range (600)..and will this include tube guns?
I dont own any AR type rifles but if it lasts ill own 1.
thanks
Jim

Adrian,

You think a Weaver T36 is overkill on an AR?

Holder

i have 36x luepolds on all three of my ar br rifles....
