    Concentricity guage

A chambered BR round cant run out much after the bolt is closed. We fire our cases with very high pressure and after they are fired they rebound/ shrink back very very little. The fired round brass is within .0005 say of the true chamber size. We size the neck only 3/4 (approx) of the way down...

    Gun handling question.

Tim: Do you know of a specific rear bag that fits the Speedy stock properly?

    Gun handling question.

Ive gotten back into 100/200 benchrest after a 20 yr coffee break. Things have changed quite a bit. I have some fundamental questions that would help some. One thing for sure is the stock geometry has really evolved. I have an older more traditional (roundish) geometry glass stock on a...

    2020 Lot of LT32

Updated info here. Lou Murdica was good enough to inform me this is a 2015 lot of LT32. Its not a 2020 lot.The mistake being made was a white tag on front of the jug with 031820 on it. The store owner said it was a March 2020 lot but was mistaken. I added up two and two but it wasnt 4. Wally

    2020 Lot of LT32

Sorry Lou. I meant a March 2020 mfg. The tag says 031820. There is another number. Its15 and then its smeared and not readable after that. Wally

    2020 Lot of LT32

Ive never met a truly temperature stable 6ppc with any powder to be honest. Stable until 90 degrees and 80% humidity maybe?? The 30BR using H4198 EX seems way more forgiving with a fatter forgivness window. Im shooting score only now and may be talked into a 30 this winter as I have never caught...

    2020 Lot of LT32

Randy, I sold my bullet making equipment 10 yrs ago. I have about 600 left. The 65GR Jones Hummer Bullet will be no more. Of course I used steel dies and everyone knows "that'll never work"! lol. The 3320 -3360fps magic window is what used to be my best loads using various powders but with MY...

    2020 Lot of LT32

Took possession of a jug of LT32 made in May of 2020. Preliminary chrono work at the farm is promising. 27.5 gives 3290fps. 65gr Jones 7 ogive bullet. Going up .5gr in half grain increments gives 3320,3360,3420 fps. I went no higher. The cases were mild extracting with no cratering. !YMMV! Only...

I got this today for my home lathe.

Aloris Cant beat an Aloris system. I have 8 holders and rarely have to break one down. I took a lathe down my basement 25 yrs ago and still glad I did.

    Bad lots of N133 ?

Went out yesterday for an extended range session with a new (used) rifle and N133 from 2000. Yep its 20 yrs old. I couldnt get it to shoot then and it wont shoot now. Im saying there are no bug holes anywhere in this powder. It took 30.5 gr to get 3340 fps. with a 65 gr bullet on an .825 jacket...

    Chambering question

18TPI =.055 per revolution This is a Speedy built rifle and I figured he might have indexed the barrel. Since 18 tpi = .055 per rev I decided on that as a way to stay indexed? Also the engraving on side of the barrel still shows in same rotational location. I finished it up today and...

    Chambering question

Thanks . Concern is just effect on accuracy. I didnt think it would matter too much but figured I better ask. Wally

    Chambering question

This is a question about chambering a barrel. More especially the area next to the shoulder. I have always relieved the last few threads with a squared off tool for about .100. So there are no threads for that .100 and I generally cut to the minor diameter of what would be the threads. That...

I couldnt stand it any longer

Old School Here Its great to have the right tooling isnt it? Working to 3 microns takes a steady hand for sure! lol. I have all kinds of oddball HS lathe cutters I can surely make work. Plus I do have a Gorton tool grinder that I use to make cutters by hand the old school way. Ill be...

I couldnt stand it any longer

My previous posts from a few months ago in regards to a used benchrest rifle for sale at my local range has come home. Its a SGY rifle on a Stolle Panda and Speedy stock. Came with a 36x Leupold Suffix B (1994). The barrel has very little throat wear and no gator skin. BUT, Its not chambered...

    Lapping on dies

Tried this yet? Id approach this with carbide. I cant see what your doing exactly but could you put the die into a v block and indicate it center in your mill? You can buy solid carbide blanks to size and have it ground into a single lipped cutter. Of course costs are the factor. Maybe...

    Lapping on dies

Makes sense ! Since its a diameter we are actually talking .0015 clearance per side. Thats the size of my gray thinning hair. Talked me into it Al!

    Lapping on dies

I have a Redding SB 6ppc die that sizes the base area about .0015 squeeze but the shoulder/body junction is .003 sized down. Id like .0005 squeeze up there and .001 at base. Is there any slick trick lapping/polishing that would make it more betterer? Maybe .003 is ok?? Seems a lot. Wally

    Chucking reamer/die question

Maybe? My rule was .015 max for reaming up to about 34rc. I dont know the RC of that die nor the type of surface hardening. Most carb'ed and quench type HT is around 58-62. The other rule that works pretty well is you need 20 plus RC minimum from cutter to parent material to cut. Id...
