    ladder test with a tuner

I think that's close to what I was referring to as a ladder test with the tuner. Can you provide some additional explanation of the picture? My naive thought is that if you can find a range of settings where the shots go to the same POI, set the tuner in the middle of the range, & call it...

    ladder test with a tuner

The "tuner question" thread got me to wondering: Does anyone do a ladder test with a tuner, not changing the load, but changing the tuner setting to find the "right" setting? Then again, is there a "right" setting that works day after day? Regards, Ron

    Anschutz receiver thread?

The 6mm diameter is a bit smaller, but the 28 thread is not close. After 5 threads, you'll be a whole thread off. It's better to get a proper metric screw made if you have to. JMHO, Ron

    Tikka T3 barrel thread

Steve, This has been discussed before. Yes, it's metric, but so close to 16 TPI that it doesn't matter. That a look at: http://benchrest.com/showthread.php?51749-Barrel-thread-for-a-Sako-L461-action Regards, Ron

    XP-100 barrel

"I don't understand why Rem. barrels are not better indexed. Do receiver front to bolt face dimensions vary a lot? Large variations in tenon length?" No, there are not Large variations in tenon length. Usually a Rem barrel will screw on another action & headspace, etc correctly. It's just...

    XP-100 barrel

Fussy, By turning the barrel further into the receiver to get the sights & stamping right, neither the counter bore or the headspace will be right. If you haven't fitted a barrel before, I suggest you get a gunsmith to do the job. Regards, Ron

    XP-100 barrel

The receiver threads in a Remington action are not timed. So the barrel may headspace just fine, but the roll stamping & the rib will not line up properly. You can fit the barrel so the rib & stamping are right, & then rechamber to the correct headspace. JMHO. Regards, Ron

Proper name for the threaded part of the barrel-

2 Pet peeves VARMINT: I'm not Snuffy Smith & I don't shoot a Varmit rifle, but I have some trophies that say, "Light Varmit"! Powder MEASURE: it's not a powder thrower or a powder dump.

    Bore guide

"It's not the cloth that wears. it is the rod going over the throat. I wonder why the bore scope always shows more wear on the bottom. Matt" It might be caused by bending the rod up to clear the comb of the stock with a loose bore guide. Ron

PTG Bolt Head and Bolt Body: What Fitting is Required?

Michael, I just rebarreled a savage target in 6 BR with a PTG bolt head. No fitting of the bolt head was needed. I like to cut the threads with a shoulder, like a Remington, so I didn't use the nut. I find it easier to get the headspace right that way. Your mileage may vary. Regards, Ron

    Controlling Runnout?

Al is in line with the "bananna shaped case" idea of Merrill Martin. I think he and Creighton Audette were the ones to stress the importance of using good cases in the pages of Precision Shooting starting in the 1980's. Merrill Martin, Precision Shooting, Apr. 1989, vol. 34, No. 12, pp. 8 9...
