    SS&D actions

Justin, Jimmy Meyers told me the reason his actions have this is that the lower cut in the receiver acts as a feed ramp. I had assumed that he originated it, but my Shilen/SS&D action, & as you said, the Sherman actions had it around the same time or before the Meyers. Sherman, Shilen, & Meyers...

    SS&D actions

Were the Ross Sherman actions the same design as the SS&D Shilen actions (pre-DGA Shilen actions)? Large bolt, 4-lug actions, all lugs oriented horizontally when locked. Regards, Ron

    Rifled shotgun barrel makers?

Dan, Why do you want to rebarrel it? A relatively new model, it couldn't have been shot that much. Are you doing a special project? Just curious, Ron

    Digital calipers w/remote readout....

"Hey Now! Don't take that the wrong way..... I wasn't CALLING you "steenkin Ron"......it's an expression, a comment on the state of affairs. And noting that you were RIGHT, as in CORRECT..... If I were British I mighta' said "too steenkin' right, Ron!" instead but hey...... If It sounded like I...

    Digital calipers w/remote readout....

Al, Don't sell the Igaging calipers short. They seem to me to be a great value, every bit as good as mitutoyo, infinitely better than the Chinese junk from horrible freight. I put the Igaging DRO's on my lathe & mill drill & wonder how I ever got along before. Here's a comparison of...

    Digital calipers w/remote readout....

I just looked at the data cable in their video. It looks like it's the same as the Mitutoyo SPC connector, while the DRO remote read outs from Igaging have a USB type B female input. So you'll need a cable with a male SPC connector & a USB type B male on the other. And then there's no...

    Digital calipers w/remote readout....

Igaging caliper Al, I have that exact caliper & like it a lot. However it does not have an output connector. You'll need the absolute origin caliper to do this. http://www.igaging.com/page12.html Regards, Ron

    Problem with shells feeding

Put in a magazine box, follower, & spring from a 22-250 or a 243/308 & it will work perfectly. The 223 box is smaller & gives problems as you found. Regards, Ron

Experiment in progress--flash hole size reduction

The name is correct. He offered to send people drawings of his flash hole reduction tool. I responded, but never received them - just reporting what happened. He also turned the rims to uniform thickness & headspaced on the rim. Regards, Ron

    722 vs 700 Remington action?

From the Roy Marcot book, "The Official Authorized History of Remington Arms Company", page 243: The 725's were dressed up 721/722's to compete with the fancier model 70 winchesters. They look much like the later 700's, but have a safety that looks like the 1917 Enfield-based models 30/30s/720...

    Ideas wanted

Tom, As usual, Jackie Schmidt is right. My variation: A sanding disk on a radial arm saw is the best to sand off the excess. Leave the pad on the stock & wrap a layer of black plastic electrical tape and a layer of white masking tape on the wood in front of the pad. Using 120 to 150 grit on...

    I don't understand this.

Joel, You chose a powder that's on the slow side for the deuce & a low charge weight to boot. The Hodgdon site says your pressure is about 28900 psi which won't fire form your cases. The classic load for a deuce is 20.5 gr H4198 with a 52 gr hollow point. Try that load & you'll form your case...

    Remington 788 Lugs and reloading

"On the 788, it is mostly compression of the bolt but there is also some stretch of the receiver. In total, it amounts to about .001" per thousand pounds of back thrust." Bill, 50,000 psi would give .050" stretch! Did you slip a decimal place or two? Regards, Ron

    What's the best digital scale

Carl, I spent my career as a research chemist using expensive electronic lab scales reading to .1 mg and .01 mg, & I have Ohaus 10-10, and 5-0-5 scales, an RCBS chargemaster, and a Grizzly Industrial that reads to .01 grain at home. Lab balances that read to .01 mg need to be on vibration...

    fitting a RamAge barrel

The Savage barrels that Midway sells do not come stamped, so there is no requirement for stamping. At least the two Midway barrels that I screwed in for friends had no markings. Even Savage roll stamps their barrels after they're on the action. I find it easier to fit both Remington & Savage...

    6br in a PPC bolt

3 yrs ago, I had BAT open my bolt face from PPC to BR. The bolt was back quickly & switching back to PPC just requires switching the extractor. Switching is not hard. Just put the bolt in a plastic freezer bag before taking taking out the extractor. Otherwise you'll probably be hunting for the...
