    Powder scales..........a new thread

Expert target Jerry????? Mike: You are probably right, but when you see how consistent Sam Hall shoots and the amount of small groups he produces and only uses a RCBS 5-0-5??? Kind of makes you think? I'm going to hold off a bit before plunking down my money. If I can modify my trickler to...

    Piedmont Gun Club IBS 600

Amen to Greg's post. The club does an excellent job of running the matches. If you want to challenge your 600 yard skills, this is the place to come. I believe the cream of the crop shows up here for the matches. When you see shooters travel 7 hours to attend, you know its special. Any win...

    Powder scales..........a new thread

The old Lymans are used to throw ligh charges for either pistol/revolver loads or for starter charges in my duplex and triplex smokeless muzzle loader loads. The two RCBS and REDDINGs have been used in the past for larger powder amounts in my hunting rifles. The picture had originally been...

    Powder scales..........a new thread

Actually I have had a similar set up for the past four or five years. Just found it a bit on the slow side. I glued the pin in place for a more exact reference and added a magnifying glass for my "older" eyes. I am now thinking of building a new chute for my trickler with a smaller hole and...

    Powder scales..........a new thread

Here's the thing............. At 100 or 200 and maybe even 300 yards (Short Range Benchrest) probably 50 or 75 fps will not make a significant difference in point of impact. Hence, you rarely see powder scales at short range matches............Maybe, if is a 300 yard match????? The problem...

    Powder scales..........a new thread

I did not want to steal Ted's post so thought it best to start a new thread: Here is my delima:D I have been around the long range game for about 11 years now and had always relied on my RCBS 1010 scale. I set it up at eye level and even mounted a permanent magnifying glass so my "older" eyes...

    New Shooter Advice

D2x..............Excellent advice from Charles E as always. Just curious how you came up with that cartridge? While it will work to a degree??? I doubt it would be competitive. I might suggest going to the web side for the 1,000 yard clubs Charles mentioned or just Google 1,000 yard clubs and...

Are muzzle brakes on LGs hard on scopes?

These were the 6.5 x .284 Super and several variations of the 6mm BR (BRX, 6-6.5 Lapua, 6X44) No EARGOSPLITTENLOUDENBOOMERS :) Rich De

Are muzzle brakes on LGs hard on scopes?

In over ten years shooting muzzle brakes on 1,000 and 600 yard guns, I have never had a scope problem using Leupold, Weaver, Sightron and Valdada scopes??? Maybe I have been lucky? Rich De

Scope magnification for 500-1000 yds match?

Seb.......I suppose there is a lot to be said for some of the High Dollar scopes in varying powers, but being of meager means:), I have pretty well stayed with the 24X Leupolds, Weavers, Sightrons etc. The 24 Leupy did well enought to allow me to set the 1,000 yard oignt gun group record back...

    vias muzzle brake

I just personally talked with a competitor at the last Piedmont match who will be doing an upcoming article on muzzle brakes. He has written numerous intelligent articles for Precision Shooting in the past and he gave me his opinion. Mind you, I was not even asking about the Vais? His tests...

What wind influences bullet drift most?

Isn't it nice to just pull the trigger............get your eye back in the scope and watch the impact in relation to the clay bird you are sighting on??? or see the results on the sighter target? Beats all of the above mumbo jumbo :) Rich De

    6mm super lr

First of all, what IS a 6mm super lr (I get the long range)? What 6mm are you "supering". I used to shoot a 6.5 x .284 Super which was basically a 6.5 x .284 Ackley with the shoulder moved forward about .010". Generally speaking, a 1 - 8 twist barrel will do fine with your groundhog bullets...

600 yard match at Piedmont yesterday........

James............I am on his list and I did get them yesterday but it was before I posted this. But thanks anyway. So you were on my bench also:) It was OK in the a.m. but deteriorated when HG came along:( At least I did not DQ as many did! Rich De

600 yard match at Piedmont yesterday........

This is not much of a match report but I thought by now, someone would have put up the full results. Let me say this, as always, it is a good match to attend. It also has some of the country's top shooters present so winning here is an accomplishment:) It started out in the morning around 28*...
