Just a few weeks ago I was in a shop in IL run by a man with the desire to tell me about what a ripoff the people are on GunBroker who are selling all of the BR primers at such high prices.
He then preceded to sell me a box of 1000 BR-2s for $58.
I used to shoot NRA 3-position a long time ago when I was young, and recently I have wanted to get back into either 3P or some sort of off-hand centerfire shooting competition with a jacket and sling.
I currently have a new rifle which I would like to use, it is a 6.5x284 on a Mauser action...
I'm not very familiar with many of the rail accessories just yet, but I would like to begin shooting off-hand with a shooting jacket and sling of course.
At this point, I'm not even familiar with where I look for good shooting slings for competition use. (That will come next once I find out the...
I have a McMillan A2 stock which I was going to get a sling attachment for. I was told it uses a standard Anschutz rail size, but the Anschutz 'T' blocks have a center pillar which is slightly too wide to slide into the rail.
Does anyone know what the proper rail spec size is for this stock...
Joe,
One thing which could be changed would be getting that giant ink cost down to nearly nothing, by refilling your own cartridges.
As far as I know, all ink jets can use a similar type of ink. All you need to do is tap into the reservoir and fill it with a needle. Nearly any cartridge should...
Sorry that I started this thread with the wrong tone about this.
This story simply stood out to me as being just a little extreme for my tastes.
I hope that the administration understands the level of complexity they are imposing on automakers by use of such elevated standards.
If this is for...
Here's the latest one from Mr. Bigshot, aimed at the auto industry.

I found the following statement by the president to be quite entertaining.
"And at a time of historic crisis in our auto industry, this rule provides the clear...

In reviewing costs at that site, it actually looks like the 14x20" size is better priced. 70LB 1000 pack is $94.51. Maybe there is a step up in printer which can still be had somewhat cheap.
I just wanted to mention this, in case anyone is interested in printing their own large targets.
There is a large printer available, the EPSON Stylus Photo 1400, which will print 13x19" targets. The printer can be found for around $180 by doing an online search. It is an inkjet, but if you...
For my situation, the thicker printer paper stapled on OSB backing is doing the trick. I purchased 90lb thickness 8.5x11" card stock which I am printing targets on.
I can see that there are many more underlying factors than I had orginally imagined. :o
About the brass wear question. I realize each case is used a smaller amount of times than the throat. But the case is the "nozzle", and where the gas is initially forced to converge into the neck. So I...
I didn't mean it in the literal sense of predicting an exact number. What I was getting at was just how to achieve a general estimation for comparison of similar cartridges.
It was one of the things I never understood exactly, and wanted to clarify.
Joe,
Thanks for those links. Very interesting to see my home state IL's changes through the seasons.
It shows from almost no wind in the summer, to quite harsh winds in winter, tapering through spring. To me, it had always seemed windy!
If steel is eroded by the gas which is forced to converge upon the throat, how much is the softer brass in the cases eroded in the neck area upon each firing? Has anyone found brass to erode or thin more than they desire in the amount of firings the brass is typically good for? Or maybe this...
Some people have said that the 142SMK don't always work in a 1-9, but I think it may be rather barrel specific, as they work just fine in my Shilen 1-9 twist 6.5-284, in the limited testing I have performed so far.
I did not even think of that. That would explain why a larger caliber with similar bullet would erode less, because it is like a bigger nozzle on a rocket for gasses to escape, all else being equal. Interesting.
Obviously having a long bullet which is pushed into the throat very fast is what constitutes a barrel burning cartridge. It seems this equates to a high BC bullet leaving at say 3000FPS+ (as an a example).
Here is what confuses me.
Now if we have the same length of bullet and the bore becomes...
I think the forum title should include something that is more specific about "Centerfire Benchrest".
A new person may see it first when scrolling down and immediately feel it is a "general" benchrest forum to post in, as many do.
