    Mossberg 146B

Mossberg parts show up on Gun Broker occasionally, bolts usually go in the $50 to $70 range. You can research this site to see which bolts are compatable. http://home.epix.net/~damguy/

    Gas Gun Question

Selling the ammo was the correct solution. You could have fought that rifle for a long time to make it run with the Tul and risked problems with other ammunition.

    Gas Gun Question

Is the failure to lock with the full power or the suspect (Tul) ammo? If it is with the full power, something else is going on.

    noise reduction

Used truck tires (semi) have an I.D. of about 22 inches -- and they are free!! (They have to pay to get rid of them). I would go for about a dozen. You will still have the supersonic "crack" from the bullet however. Actually, I've been considering building a 50 foot range out of them.

    Gas Gun Question

Merry Christmas to you and your families I would be surprised if the H-bar was being used in 3-gun or similar competition. With a 20" heavy barrel and the fixed carry handle (and sights), it would be rather unwieldy. It is much more suited to CMP (3 or 4 position) shooting in which case I...

    Gas Gun Question

I read his post to say that the bolt was locking back with the Remington ammo. If it stovepipes with the Tul, I'm not certain that it will lock back (short stroking). The symptom of too much gas that I experienced was a failure to extract the spent cartridge from the chamber. This occurs when...

    Gas Gun Question

You are undoubtedly on the right track. I just wanted to throw out the caution in case someone decided that more was better. I would keep the original buffer spring - again, these are a balanced system and the buffer/spring is matched to the barrel length and the buttstock (regular or...

    Gas Gun Question

I built a 16" AR some years ago that gave me fits with extraction. Frequently, the bolt would not unlock, other times it would leave the expended cartridge in the chamber while the bolt would move rearward. After playing with various buffer weights and beefing up the extractor spring, I...

    Keyholing at 1000 yards

I just looked at the referenced site and found this: http://riflemansjournal.blogspot.com/2010/01/equipment-palma-bullets-and-barrels.html I got more education in the 10 minutes it took me to read this than I have in years of reloading.

I know am going to get ripped, but..........

The 112 series was a single shot version of the Savage 110 series. IIRC, it had no magazine cutout and theoretically would have had a more rigid receiver. I don't know what the specific features of the BT were, but it seems to have been one of their target models weighing in at something over 10#.

    Wind thingie......

Let's really confuse the issue and look at the "windrose" http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=346824&highlight=windrose Look about 4 posts down on the first page. A crosswind is only a part of the problem. The windrose shows one man's observation of the effect of the wind...

I know am going to get ripped, but..........

In that it is not going to be above freezing for the next week or more, I decided to take my newly stocked Savage to a local indoor range to see what it would do. In spite of a very uncomfortable semi-standing position and a rather unstable surface on which to rest my rifle, I was able to...

    Twist rates for rimfire

It is interesting that the twist rate for the .22 short liners from Redman's is 1:20. Don't know what value this information is other than to further confuse the issue.

    Twist rates for rimfire

Perhaps a gain-twist would be the answer, just cut a little off the front as the temperature goes down .......................................................................;)

    Need Help/Scope Bedding Problem

I've had good luck with the silicone spray that is used to lubricate the belt on a treadmill - nothing sticks to it. I also use it to coat my bullet moulds. Another option is Saran wrap. At 0.001" thick, it works well where you are bedding at less than a vertical surface.

    Shooting from a bipod

The adapter that came with my Choate stock did not work with my Harris bipod, it extends too far below the forearm to allow the bipod to rest against the stock. I would have needed a 3/16" shim to take up the slack. Fortunately I have an adapter from Champion Shooters ($9.00) that works...

I know am going to get ripped, but..........

All suggestions greatfully accepted. Unfortunately, it may be a while before the weather gets decent enough (above 40) to see how it shoots.

I know am going to get ripped, but..........

What a coincidence ----- the Big Brown Truck delivered a Choate Ultimate Varmint Stock to my door today. :D I decided that rather than spending the same (or more) money and a lot of time in a piece of lumber, that the Choate would tell me what I needed to know. Installation took all of 10...

    mossberg 22 target rifle

I own about 25 Mossberg .22's and find them to be generally to be well built rifles. Built from ~the mid 1960's (no one is really certain but there are some without serial numbers, meaning that they would have been produced prior to the 1968 GCA) through 1985, the LSB is regarded as the best of...
