    Chambering question on worn lathe

Yes. Years ago Stiller did the calcs as to what the optimal taper would be in his action and put it into his action. Some complained with the difference in fitting barrels so he stopped using that feature.

    tight muzzle

If I recall correctly the late Shelly Davidson did a fair amount of testing with sleeves shrunk on the muzzle of a centerfire barrel. I don't recall any positive success and there was a negative when he went too far. It's been so long ago I don't think his information is searchable/available...

    11" Rockwell back gear trouble

It's a fiber reinforced piece of rubber. It probably doesn't need to be fiber reinforced. Fairly stiff durometer. It's glued on. Without looking I'd say it's about 1/8" thick. I'll agree with Butch in that they are a nice gunsmith lathe. Another problem area you may have to deal with (if...

1,1,1 trichloroethane. A chlorinated solvent. Banned because it depleted ozone. You can still find some of the old cutting oils now and then with 1,1,1 trichloroethane on ebay.

    cutting oils. Sulfur chlorine. ??????

Both are extreme pressure lubricant additives (EP). Both have good properties for being in a cutting oil. Sulfur is considered a health hazard and an air pollutant. Chlorine is suspected to cause micro-cracking in parts during machining leading to stress fractures and part failure. Chlorine can...

    robinett 30 br trim lengh

Send it in and have it shortened. Get a print and mark the changes you want right on the print. Easy, been there and no problem. If you want PTG to do the work, call and they'll issue an RMA with a notation that the reamer is coming in for neck and throat rework.

When I was sent this print and saw the long dimension Jackie's BR and method came to mind. I'm also glad I caught the dimension before I ordered a reamer. The print said nothing other than "30 BR Robinett finisher". BTW I have your original PS article filed in my drawer for reference. Thanks!

Nardini Mascote MS 1440 S/E Geared Head Precision Lathe

I see. Your example is an early generation. They must have increased the spindle bore on the next generation. You can tell your example is an early generation by the triangular shaped plastic speed change knobs. The later generation uses a cylindrical all steel knob with a steel lever. The...

Nardini Mascote MS 1440 S/E Geared Head Precision Lathe

Where did you get the print? It would appear the spec of 1 21/32" would still be incorrect. 1 21/32" = 1.656" but the spindle is 1.81" (the Nardini manual actually says 1.13/16"-46mm). I am not quoting a spec from somewhere off the internet, I have an original Nardini manual sitting on my desk...
