    Rimfire Barrel Torque

Tapered seat of perpendicular shoulder? A lot of commercial actions have tapered seats. Panda actions have a square shoulder. Square shoulders are more repeatable. When I switch from .22-250 AI to 6 mm REM AI on by varmint rifle using a Panda action the POI moves 1.10 in. right and .85 in. up...

Wilbur survives a 5-bypass open heart surgery by the grace of God!

Usually four veins and the left internal mammary artery. Treats blockages in the five major cardiac arteries. Sounds like you had a good surgeon. Try not to sneeze or cough for a few days. Good luck.

    Starting in Benchrest

Just get a BR trigger that fits your action. Most are Rem 700 compatible. Jewell Triggers are still very very good. I use one on my Panda varmint rifle. Set at less than one ounce.

    Prayers for Ronnie Cheek

Probably a good idea. I would bet he was having an unremarkable recovery in those few days, so best to get him as far away from sick people as possible. Getting a Covid infection while recovering from heart surgery would not be a good thing.

Legality of selling a home finished action

NO. You can make as many rifles or handguns as you want for personal use. Some states try and control this. You can then sell the gun as long as you did NOT make it with anticipation of selling it. It does not need a serial number. I have multiple guns that have "NSN" (No Serial Number) on...

Undersized bore, chambered with normal sized solid pilot.

Any damage may (or may not) affect accuracy. Might as well finish it up and try it out at this point. Hopefully you have enough metal to set it back if it does not shoot well enough. I will second the warning about relying on solid pilots. I would rather have to adjust (or even make) a...

Advice on purchasing equipment and tooling

Carbide is a its best with heavy cuts and faster speeds. Light cuts and slower speeds do not carry off the heat generated as well. While touching up carbide edges has gotten easier with the ready availability of diamond tools it is still never as fine an edge as HSS can achieve.

    Lathe Stand

Looks like the top of the stand has been left with a lip to form a chip tray.

    Small Primer Q

Cup thickness is NOT the only way to alter primer cup strength. An extra strike during forming will work harden the brass more.

    chambering thru headstock

A hole EXPANDS as if it was filled with the same material. That means the hole gets LARGER.

    What caused this

Looks like tool chatter. As in holder not tight enough.

    chambering thru headstock

It really is practice that does it. If I do not do lathe work for even a few months, the time is noticeably longer when I start up again. A lot comes back after a very few set ups. I miss having access to some very precise lathes we had for aerospace work. Laser Interferometers to measure with...

    Labradar Service

Sounds like they may have ended up with a low bidder on the connector. While the electrical specs are pretty tight, the mechanical ones are not all that good. Thin metal used in connector shells needs to be rather hard to have a decent life.

Anchoring a Lathe to a Slab

I was there in the late 70s to early 90s. Mostly U2-R. My Company made all of the Prime Mission Equipment at one point. We had bought up the other vendors and subbed out to only a very few. I worked with a few of the older 'ships electricians' that had been there sine the 1950s. George Muntz...

Anchoring a Lathe to a Slab

Site 2 was home for many months when we delivered a new SIGINT system. Did a little work on the SR. AKA the 'lead sled.' Space shuttles built at Site 1. Bombers at Site 3. Actual armed Lockheed guards at the perimeter fence and the inner fence.

Anchoring a Lathe to a Slab

Well designed grade beams are a serious PITA to remove. The rebar gives the composite beam the same strength in tension as the concrete has in compression. We had a very large vibration table. About 10 feet by ten feet. We used it for testing entire racks of U-2 equipment. The concrete base...

Anchoring a Lathe to a Slab

The loads on a lathe with a large out of balance item being turned are huge. We anchor them so they do not tip over.

Anchoring a Lathe to a Slab

Works fine if the pad is large enough. The concrete pad under our largest lathes was five feet thick. It had lathes as large as 40 feet used to turn casting up to around six feet in diameter. I have a basement pad that is around 8 inches thick. It does not have ANY cracks in it. The 14 x 48...
