Yet another dumb question.

Ok......working on neck tension. Lets take my HG 300WSM. .336 neck. I only had a couple of sizing bushings on hand. I tried .332, .330, & .328 (as I didn't have anything bigger) The gun shot smaller as tension went up. All groups were at 600, and all of the groups size increase was vertical. Ended up at .328. Going to try .326 and .324 next. Waiting till I get my cheater bar for my press handle so I can actually seat the bullets. :D :D

Now, incorperating the "node" concept ......one might find great groups at 2650 fps, 2780, 2870, and 2950......you know....nodes, or sweet spots.

Are there "nodes" in neck tension...... Like bad at .325....better at .326.....great at .328....worse at .330 worse yet at .332.....better at .333...better yet at .334......wonderfull again at .335....

Everyone talkes about "very little tension....like .001 -.002". So far all of my big 30 bbls like MORE tension. My .330 neck 300 wby from 2 years ago LOVED .322. My .334 neck WBY LOVED .330, another two liked .328, and my .336 neck WSM likes .328. I have yet to see a bigger gun like ".002 or .001 tension". Also....all of my loads to date ended up with at least a .020 jam.....they don't like to be jumped.

Any thought on this embarrising dumb question. I was going to buy a .333, .334, and .335 bushing, but will save my money for something else if I can. I always need more STUFF!!! And the good STUFF isn't cheep!!!!

duh.....my bad

well powders like to burn in pressure ranges. the neck tension is holding...my guess is the 020 jam is on a vld type bullet ? maybe at lower pressures(ignition start) the bullet is moving, and when you add neck tension it holds a bit, gets a better burn and you shoot better ???
