Xp100

I was hoping you would tell me you still have it and it's still same as new condition. I have a model 7 that I have thought about making into a pistol.

Make sure you read the FFL reg about making a pistol from a rifle action. We ran into mucho complications back in the 1970's trying to make a unlimited class handgun silhouette pistol out of a rifle action.

Jay- do not make a model 7 into a pistol. You can make a pistol into a rifle as long as it has a 16" barrel but you cannot take an action labeled as a rifle action into a pistol without breaking the gca laws. 10yrs and i think a $100,000 fine

I believe the question was....xp-100 ( P=pistol ) to rifle.....perfectly legal.I`ve saw many rifles built that way.....Now cutting down a rifle to make pistol is ILLEGAL...

Now read jerrys post again. Its 180deg off of what you said it was

The model 7 I have was never built as a rifle or pistol. It's just a action. I planned to do what I want with it. I haven't handgun hunted in years. I did machine work for a fellar this fall that published the ballistics of a shortened version of the 30 Dasher for a Illinois Legal Deer Cartridge for whitetail deer hunting.
Been thinking since I made dies and chambered one for him I might as well make another for me.
Not to sell, but to use. His was a xp100.

Doesnt matter. The model 7 is marketed as a rifle action. It must be factory labeled "pistol only" and even then you have to prove- once you get your day in court- that it never had a stock attached. I go thru this all the time with AR pistols. But for sure do as you wish. Youll probably never get caught.

Think XR100R (rear grip) stock and 18" barrel. Overall length over 27". Fits a model 7 action like it belongs in it and has forearm and pistol grip to fire being held with 1 or both hands.

I should add that my intention is to try to accommodate my wants for something as a shooter and hunter using what I have and doing it in a way to stay legal by ATF and our states game laws. I have contacted the ATF and our DNR with legal questions before proceeding with machine work and assembly on previous projects and had zero problems with them. If you take the time to ask they will give the information you need to keep you legal. Don't be afraid to ask.

Yea I did too since the silhouette pistol had to have a 14" max barrel by IHMSA rules.
