XP cut on Action?

From what i understand the XP cut is just a small area scoop cut out if the bottom of the action? Is there any real benefits to this on a round action?

I can see it sort of act as a recoil lug if bedded correctly .

Would it be a good or bad idea to get this option when i order my borden brm?

Also i notice in the pictures that the brm has a thick tang, is that to help with the recoil as well?

Talk to Jim Borden and explain what you want to do. He'll take care of you.

I'm assuming the best way would to call him?

I hate to bother him as I will be buying from a dealer as I'm in Canada.

This is for a 30br heavy benchrest for score.

Give him a call. They get bothered with much less relevant questions daily. Your question is a legit. Just keep it short and to the point.

Just got off the phone with him and he recommended the BRMXD without the bolt on recoil lug. Now I got to start looking for a Canadian smith that does a good glue and screw bedding job.

A good glue job and you don’t need the screws. Conversely a good bedding job and you don’t need the glue.

!!!!!

Bolder nor Truer words were never spaken!!

(When speaking of steel actions IMO.... I'm currently on the fence re not-glued Stolle design for Heavy/large recoil setups)

Is my thinking right that the closer the stock fits the action and the less thickness of bedding needed the better?

Im thinking the thicker the bedding the more shrink back that might occur? and if a large void is need to be filled do it in multiple steps?

Also the pillars should be under the bedding not exposed?
