Would this be legal??

If I started off with a legal LV contour 1.200 breech, .875 at the crown approx 21.5 length. Does it matter what I do in between this area? In other words, suppose you went from 1.200 for 1 inch, stepped down to .900 tapering to .750 at 19 inches, then back up to .875 for the rest of the length.

Had something I wanted to do but need to know legality before I spend much more time on this.

Rule.........

.....Barrel may be 1.25" in Diameter up to 5" Ahead of the Bolt Face.

.....From this point, it MUST taper to 0.900" at 29"s.

.....A shorter barrel than 29"s may have proportionately larger muzzle diameter.

.....The barrel must be a minimum in 18"s in length.

jan. the muzzle must be .9.at 29......does the bbl have to have a contiuous taper ?

or just the muzzle relate to a .9 at 29

What you propose would be perfectly legal. Nothing in the rules states that it must be a straight taper...

That is exactly

what I need to know. I know the rules on the taper, but was wondering about the "in between" section. Thanks for clarifying the question better Mike.

the barrel can be SMALLER than the taper profile but NOT larger. the barrel must fall INSIDE of the parameters outlined in the rules.

....I too believe this is the spirit of the rule. I reckon one could taper down to
.750 AFTER the reqiured 5" past the bolt face point at XXX"s, and then taper back up to .XXX at 18" as long as one stayed WITHIN the specified taper at the extended 29" mark. Jan Sarras

Jan The rule says UP TO 5" ahead therefore woupd or can be 1/2" in front and then start the taper.
