I wanted to pass on my thought on to all the members that will be taking part in the 1st Rimfire & Air Rifle World Championships that are being held in Milan, Italy.
Italy and Milan are steeped in history and seems fitting that this championship is being held there. I was lucky to have been given a tour of TSN Milano last year when I went to the European Championships and this picture stood out in their room of trophy’s.
old_tsn_big.jpg

It shows the front of the original building of TSN, but the picture tells a story all of its own as it has caught time and if it had not been for the photographer who took the picture it would never had been seen.
If you look at the picture in detail, you will see the officials with their white arm bands telling people were to go, the soldiers or police officers that are there in their uniform, the transportation of competitors travelling by foot and bicycle, all the men with there rifles over their shoulders, the different hats that they all had and of course the car with the ladies standing up to get a good view of what was going on.
My point to this is its history in the making, and we that will be going to Milan will be making our own history. It will be something that has never been done before, it will have it problems and it critics. But it is the beginning of the beginning, I guess that the 1st Olympics in Athens was the same, but it was the base for the standard to be improved upon, like everything else in life.
It is the chance for competitors of the world to come together for one purpose to share in the love of their sport, all with a different view of how to deal with the job on the day, each will have his own way of setting up and dealing mentally with task as they sit down and line up on the target and pull the trigger. The result will depend on how they have read the conditions and how they can keep their nerves. Its all part of the sport and the challenge to achieve a gold, silver, bronze or a personal best. But we will all be winners in one way or another as being picked to represent your country means that you are already a winner.
This will be the beginning of the beginning and we will go down in our own history of our sport for the future to come so that those that come after us will look back and see our faces and those that will be the first winners of the medals.
After the event the critics will be out to make it a failure or a success it is up to us the competitors to make it a success and that depends on how we act on behalf of our country and of our sport so that the future will be successful for those that come after us as we have a responsibility to them.

I wish the best to all that will be taking part and look forward to meeting you all.

Inspirational

Thanks Andy, I am sure you just gave me a reason to go for a few extra points.

If this does not inspire anyone to succeed or be proud, nothing will.

ONLY 85 days to go, I have printed this & will read it before every training session I do.

That guy standing at about 8 o’clock with his hands on his hips looks familiar, he could be Austrian.
