I am probably the odd man out but I pick between 5 and 10 powders and work up loads across the crono to find which ones give me load density at the desired speed without too much pressure and good ES's.
Then I take the one or two and do a ladder test in the field to fine tune the loads to what the barrel likes.
Then I pick 5 to 7 different bullets and do a ladder test with each to figure out OAL and narrow them down.
By then I am usually down to a couple of bullets, one powder which I shoot at various ranges from 100 to 1000 yards. The one that preforms the most consistent at all ranges is the winner.
Then i take that load and map it at all ranges and see how it compares to my ballistic program. Then I make data cards.
Then I do the odd stuff like bullet pointing and testing in different weather conditions.
Oddly enough I almost never try different primers. And I stick with the same cases too.
Then I get another barrel and wonder if there is an easier way!
I am an "over tester" for sure.
