Hello all, I would like to know what would be the correct distances to set out wind flags on a 200 yard course. Are there any rules of thumb?

Depends on the specific characteristics of the range. I used to use 4 but now I am using 6 which I think is about right [for me ] at Riverbend. There are times when the first 3 flags will be showing basically nothing and the 3 flags past the 100 yd line will be showing 5 to 10 mph switchy winds.

4 or 5 flags for shooting 100 yds.

The Master of masters ... Tony Boyer, sets his at 20, 40, 60, and 80 yards for the 100 yard competition and adds a 100 yard flag along with a 160 yard flag for the 200 yard competition. [Source: The Precision Shooting Magazine, August 2009, page 13.]

You can follow his lead, or experiment yourself, based on the topography of your range. Most benchrest shooters space flags according to the local terrain and the way that the wind is directed over and through mounds, berms, cutouts and tree lines. :)
