Is this powder usable in 6 PPC rifles? If so , what will be a good starting point for 68 grains Barts bullets in custon action?

Before you ask me, I dont have N 133 available or any other:mad:. Only locally produced powders. If anyone has experience to share, please let me know what you think.

Where are you located? Mail order not an option?

W748 is useable but the velocity range is very limited for this powder with the 6PPC. Sierra lists a 70gr bullet using 28.9-29.7gr of W748 to give you an idea. 29.7 gave 3000FPS and was the maximum load. I realize that BR shooters often shoot beyond the recommended max loads but W748 was very limited in application for this cartridge.

In the 80's I shot quiet a bit of 748 around 30.8. Bart Weider shot
it and did some winning with it. Seemed that around July and Aug, is stuck
together like sugar. A different way of handling it might have improved it.

Actually, Doc Palmisano used 748 initially in his co-development. It worked ok but contrary to popular belief, it didn't make the 22ppc or the 6ppc a sure winner right off the bat. It wasn't until other powders were tried that the ppc as we know it today came to life. Until then, the 222 rem was still the cartridge to beat.

winchester 748 ppc

I'm sure it will work for you, just be careful on working up a load. it's similar to 4895 in a lot of ways. it meters very well.
Start with about 29 to 30 grs and work up from there,
I bought some winchester surplus 846 powder and one of my friends was playing around with the same stuff, It's closer to blc2 He was getting really great velocity with the powder in his 6MM Br. Its good powder. The only draw back is the residue it leaves behind. It does come out though with some iosso once in a while. Just watch out for pressure signs and use a primer with a hard cup, like wolf or cci br4, or remington 7 1/2
