I acquired a mod 70 in 300 win mag. Never fired. Looking for some info like when it was built- ser no G20420xx. Also where can i get a grip cap- it appears to have had one but it fell off years ago

Dusty: Are you sure of that ser. no? According to this the link below, it might not exist. There are no sn's with letters, and none with that many digits. Ser. No. 20420 was made in 1939. My Mod. 70, sn 1728XX, was made in 1950 (The year Dad bought it.) I tried entering 204201 ( used a "1" at the end to eliminate an "X") was made in 1951, 2042011 (added second no. for the same reason) was too high for their database. Is your rifle a post-'64? If it is, that might account for its not making the database, I dunno.

Dusty: I've done a bit more digging and learned a couple of things. Your rifle was made by U.S. Repeating Arms sometime after 1991. (The "G" in the serial no. signifies USRA.) The database that this info came from only goes up to 1991--below your S/N. That explains why I couldn't find anything useful on the Winchester board. USRA bought the line from Winchester back in the early '80s; 1981, I think. Hope this helps.
