a friend has a 52 b and complains about the trigger, i know nothing about
winchesters other than what i've read on wiki...can anyone suggest a fix for
his 52b.
thanks

A Canjar or Kenyon is the best fix. Not much you can do with the factory B trigger. They are a pretty antiquated design that was not designed to go below 3 lbs or so. There are other custom triggers out there for the B like the Thomas, Grable, Bell etc. However I have never seen much advantage to those three over the factory trigger.

You will be able to take a B trigger down to about 1 - 1 1/2 pounds by adjusting the sear engagement. There is a screw on the trigger with which to adjust engagement. You may also use a stone to slightly improve the surfaces where the trigger contacts the sear. You can also help somewhat by lightening (shortening) slightly both the sear spring and the spring on the trigger. There was no good (in Kenyon's own opinion)Kenyon conversion of the B trigger. A B trigger down at 1 pound is a pretty good trigger.
