I have a Wichita BR action, on an old Mcmillan stock, it has a straight taper barrel on it now, as it was set up for prairydog and unlimited. I want to set it up as a Heavy Varmint rifle, I have a new Krieger HV barrel that I would like to put on, but Im worried that it wont make weight. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Weigh the rifle now, then pull the barrel off and weigh again. That will tell you how much barrel you can use and stay under 13.5 lbs. (with scope)

It is not a problem to make Whichita 1375 benchrest action make weight for HV with McMillan fiber stock heavy varmint tapered barrel and light scope like Leopold 36x. I have one and I can even add some weigt in the stock but my stock is LV graphite McMillan wich weights less than a HV fiberglass. I even made weight for LV but then I had to turn the barrel down to some Rem contour and shorten to 20" length all else bare mininum weight no butt plate or scope caps. I do not recomend that to be done. But for HV you should not have any problem. I recomend that you weight all the parts you are going to use, action stock scope rings etc and then you know how much of a barrel you can have. You should be able to use 23 inch HV barrel but see for your self first. Incidentally those old Whichita actions are accurate and well made and hold their own accuracy vice with the best of new custom actions.
