I have acquired a Panda 6ppc. I don't have a clue who built the thing. I am hoping someone will be able to identify the builder from a pic of the crown and bbl marking.

Thanks !!

Doesn't look like any of dwight's markings. The barrel and markings look alot like the one my buddy had done by Ron Hoehn. But it could be any number of smith's.

I just talked to Ron when ordering some prepped brass and he had seen this thread and said he didn't do it ! :p The serial number says it was made in 99 and I wouldn't be surprised if Kelbly did the whole rifle.

calling all br detectives

I have one similar to that. maybe one of speedys guys.

That was my thought too. Looks like a Speedy G to me. Speedy used unique epoxy to bed the action too. Kind of an off grey color. How about showing a PIC of the whole gun?

I believe it can be Mr Gary o'Cock, just checked my rifle, identical crown and description markings..... it's worth a try!

Good luck

Muzzle crowns

Interesting.
Looking closely at several different crowns by well known smiths I can see small, distinctive differences. I guess it's kind of like an artist signing their work.

I agree

I agree with Tubby. I think it was done by Gary Ocock. I have a PPC barrel done by him and the crown is identical. Mine has 6PPC with PPC in caps. After the 262 mine has NK instead of ND. My 6's are shaped exactly like those in the picture. Are barrel markings like that engraved by CNC or stamped? Either way they could be unique.

FWIW, every barrel that I crown looks "exactly like that", and my name isn't Gary, or Dwight or Speedy. My name is Hal, and thats a recessed target crown. I imagine there are many thousands of them cut just like that every year, and lots of different gunsmiths that do the cutting.

I just checked the barrel that Gary O chambered for me about 2 years ago. The type is smaller and the crown is flat, not rebated. It still looks like Speedy's work to me, but hey, I could be wrong.

Another Choice

It also looks like it was done by Gary Alvey from Marksman Arms.He used to do the crowns like that with the barrels outer edge at a 45 degree angle.Scrolling looks similar as well.

Who built it

The crown looks like Speedys work but I have one from him and have seen several others he has built and they all have SG&Y by the cartridge size. I cant say he stamped all his work like this but the ones I have seen have been.

Ray, I think Billy Stevens uses that crown, too. Seems like you could trace it better by the action serial number with Kelbly's help?? For starters anyway.

had 2 done by him and both had identical crowns to the pic.
