Which Calibre is Easiest on Barrels?

It would be interesting to get some opinions from experienced shooters who have shot a number of the common LR target calibres, which one is inherently easiest on barrels.

All else being equal, which of the calibres 6mm, 6.5mm, 7mm, 30cal can for example propel a 0.6BC projectile at 3000fps with the longest barrel accuracy life?

Logically, it would either be the smallest or the largest i.e. either 6mm or 30cal, because as you scale a system up or down, most characteristics (including barrel wear) should vary in a uniform manner.

I think it would need to be a 300 win magnum shooting a " PROPERLY " moly coated 210 grain Berger VLD in a 1 in 11 twist stainless match grade barrel.

Your problem is that high ballistic performance and long barrel life don't very often go together.

Under similar conditions

It would be a fair statement to say: The larger the bore, the longer the barrel life.

Shoot well

I beleive the powder you are using will determine alot of your barrel life, along with the bore diameter. But don't be afraid to use something if it is kicking everybody's #ss just because barrel life, they make them everyday.

If you look at the guys shooting the standard 6BR many of them have over 2500 rounds down there barrels. The bc is a little lighter but 3,000 fps is not a problem.

there is some interesting data on the 300 WSM having longer barrel life at least for several people.

My first one went 2300 rounds and was still winning.

Danny Brooks has one with 4000 rounds in it and was winning with it at end of season last year.

You can shoot 115/6mm bullets from a 6CM or a 6x47 Lapua or about 20 other 6mm cartridges and get 2500-3500 rounds. My 6.5x47 Lapua with 130 gr bullets will comes close to 3000 fps and with 3000+ rounds fired, the bbl still shoots very well.

I think to compare apples with apples you have to set some parameters, and I've suggested a BC of 6 and muzzle vel of 3000fps. So what are some actual examples of barrel accuracy life in the various calibres when these velocities/BCs (simultaneously) are being used as the normal load throughout the life of the barrel?
