I'm looking at different 22 Benchrest rifles for sale and was wondering if some of you guys who have been at this game for awhile can tell me some of the pros and cons of benchrest rifles built using the following actions:
1-Remington 40X
2-Winchester 52
3-Suhl 150
4-Anshutz

I know thats a pretty wide open question, but I was wondering which action or bolt designs seem to work best.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Pros
1 Very strong action, Parts availability, trigger (Jewell), threaded action
2. threaded action
3. Trigger
4. trigger, parts availability

Cons
1. Large barrel tenon, some need action truing
2. trigger, parts availability
3. Parts availability, pinned barrel, flex (good bedding required)
4. Pinned barrel, flex (bedding)

I'd pick 'em in the order that you have 'em listed. But, I'm partial to 40X's and Winchesters. I like 40X's to make BR rifles out of because that's what I have. Familiar with em and comfortable with 'em. They're built like tanks! Triggers from Jewell are readily available, lots of stocks are available, ignition is excellent and most gunsmiths know how to put a barrel on one of 'em:)
Good luck with whatever you choose. Good rifles can be made from all you listed.

52 Winchester

Contact Fred Jammison he has done very well with his 52's regards Phill Smyth

40X's & Triggers

Don't for get the Kelbly Trigger...my Davis 40 has a Kelbly and I really like it.
The 40X has so many srtong points they over shadow a couple of weak
points.A great 40X smith works thru these with no problem at all.
What more could you want from a rifle that shoots records and wins National
Championships ? :)
