On my match ammo in my 6.5x284 I will stop tinkering when I can get 15 to 20 fps at temps from 45 to 90... On the 2 tubes that I am using now that is 49.4 of H4350, 215M's, 142 SMK's, and turned Lapua brass.

With 5 shot strings btw..

Boss hoss, I think part of my problem could be variations in neck tension.

I accidentley kept the mandral in the bushing die when FL sizing. After figuring out the problem i went back and rezized the brass but I think it affected it.

Is that a mild...

or a hot load?

I have found that ES goes down as the velocity goes up in my 100/200 yd. benchrest cartridges.

The other question is what chronograph are you using and what is the screen spacing. I have a Chrony and my brother has an Oehler 35P. The Chrony will always read velocity 50 to 70 fps faster than the 35p and will show greater ES. The Chrony is sure handy though for making sure the velocity is in the ballpark that you are looking for.
I think to get real accurate readings even with the 35P you need to use a wide screen spacing.

I also would think you might need to go up a bit with the load to get into the 2950 range if you are showing no pressure. Just work up easy!

On the other hand, since it shoots well where you are, just enjoy it. Is it still holding that accuracy at the longer ranges?

Thank you for the replies, the load was just for forming brass, so I kept it lite.

I plan on adding powder to get up the velocity.

The name of my chron escpaes me. It folds in half.....

Lynn,

I need to stay home with momma today. I will go to the local range for a couple hours to test out a new cooper rifle but i need to stay close to home.

We will hook up sooner or later I'm sure.

My son and I are shooting in June's 1000 @ Sacramento.

Just to let you know a trick I learned from my mentor Speedy is to load your ammunition for the match the night before that way the set taken at the neck will be more consistent. I have not done any tests to verify this but it works for him on the long range stuff that is not loaded at the range.
