What type of rest system

Hello All!

I am an entry level BR shooter. I shoot mostly from 50Y with a .22.

Can anyone suggest a rest for a reasonable price?

Steve

Steve:
Are you going to shoot any peticular disapline? Unless you shoot something like ARA or either of the Unlimited disaplines, you will need a two piece rest set up. Go for a quality heavy front rest with a sand bag top and a rear sand bag. There are several manufacturers available. If you want to shoot Unlimited ARA, IR50/50 or RBA, then get you a Pappas one piece and practice a lot.

Currently I'm shooting the USBR Postal Rimfire matches, because there is very littlle on Long Island for benchrest. Can you recomment any particular rest?

The best rest for a reasonable price will take the longest to get.
Joe Cowan and his students at the Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center build a superb rest for the money.
Just a guess, the wait is probably a year or better as they only produce rests twice a year.
I used to own a Cowan and often regret selling it.

My suggestion would be to look for something with a windage adjustable top.

I don't have first hand experience, but the Caldwell Rock BR looks to be a decent rest for under $200.
Sinclair has several offerings with windage tops probably starting in the $300+ range.

Or another option would be to buy the base and top separately.
Once again, I don't have first hand experience, but the Hart base looks pretty solid.
There are several options out there for tops.
This option may start to wander beyond that reasonable price plateau.

Beyond these options there is always the top of the line stuff with a Fulghum front rest or a Pappas one piece,
but they're probably a little overkill for your current situation.

there's an eagle rest in the classifieds for $200 if you want to upgrade later I reccomend a scott fudd top, he will provide the stem for the eagle rest.

With Postal matches, you will have to conform to their rules. If it were me, I would try and find a quality reast with a windage top and the proper sand bag. I used a Hart with a Sinclair top when they were making a good one. I don't like the new tops they have now. Maybe some others will offer a better solution. Get off the Island, there are places to shoot in NY, PA, MD, Mass.
