From previous threads on sorting bullets a tool was mentioned as the cat's meow to sort bullets. It is called a gizzy. I have looked high and low for one of these and asked everyone at the range last weekend. I think its a barrel stub that the chambering reamer is partially run up into and then cut off. I hope not- I hope its something else. I've used one of these in the past and they are terribly inaccurate for sorting bullets.:eek::eek: Same bullet, different reading everytime you measure.:confused::confused: Tell me its something else and description or place of purchase please.

That is what it is. I t is NOT used to measure bullets. It it used to measure the amount of "bump back" of the case shoulder when resizing your brass. Hope his helps............ Jan

I use mine to determine seating depth of my bullet in the case..it gives me the ability to determine when my bullet is just touching the lands, and then if I seat the bullet out further it is considered the "jam" dimension of the bullet into the lands...very important little tool...

Well, "gizzy" is a diminutive of "gizmo."

And therein lies a problem.

In modern times, something isn't real if it doesn't have an acronym.

The logical acronym for "gizzy" would be GZI, or maybe GZY. But the acronym for "gizmo" would be GZO. I, for one, don't feel the compromise GZ offers a solution. Sucessfull acronyms should be at least three letters. Maybe GIZ? Too informal?

But yes, the context in which Al in Waugh first coined "gizzie" was to measure head clearance, when using the FL sizing die.

BTW, if you use one to establish a bullet's "just touching" point, you're out of date as soon as the throat erodes a bit. Fairly quick in some of the stuff we use in long range shooting. As long as you use your "just touching" point as a starting point and change your seating depth as needed, I suppose the gizzie can be used. Not it's purpose, though.

FWIW, and not much
